Letting Go
Heights Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You used to hold
Dare to regret
And dare to live
When you look and see
You haven't lived a single day
It brings you lower than you know
How small we are
Next to this glorious dawn
I hope you realise
I hope you realise
That you meant everything
I'd smile to see you dig your grave
You're fucking dead to me
The lyrics to Heights' song "Letting Go" are about the struggles of moving on from the past, letting go of everything one used to hold on to, and daring to regret as well as daring to live. The song talks about how looking back and noticing that one hasn't truly lived a single day can bring them down to the lowest of lows. However, it also mentions how both we and the mountains are small compared to the glorious dawn. This could be interpreted as a reminder that life is beautiful and vast, and we should not be afraid to take risks and live to the fullest.
In the second half of the song, the tone changes dramatically as the singer expresses his disappointment and anger towards someone who was important to him. He says, "I hope you realize that you meant everything," but follows it up with "I'd smile to see you dig your grave, you're fucking dead to me." This sudden shift in tone could suggest a betrayal or loss of trust, and the singer's anger and hurt are evident in these lyrics.
Overall, "Letting Go" is a song that explores the complexities of emotions and relationships, encouraging listeners to be bold and live boldly, despite potential setbacks or pain.
