After recording their first album, which featured the single Talking to a Stranger, the band traveled to Germany to record with famed producer Conny Plank. In 1984, the band reorganized, adding a three-piece horn section and losing the second guitarist. By 1986, the band's style was moving away from the sweat-drenched rhythmic jams of their early days to a more song-centered aproach centered on Seymour (whose younger brother Nick was a member of Crowded House). Throw Your Arms Around Me was a successful single in many countries.
The band was never able to match the worldwide attention they reached in 1986, though they continued to record with considerable success in Australia, and maintained a loyal fanbase elsewhere.
They broke up in 1998, but returned to play one concert on 14 March 2009 for "Sound Relief" at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which was a multi-venue rock music concert in support of relief for the Victorian Bushfire Crisis.
She's Not Fooling Around
Hunters & Collectors Lyrics

And the new ones haven’t been here too long
I remember her kisses so tender
In the darkness where they linger on
All the little games that I played
Ended with the love that she made
Something shifted, the veil has been lifted
Oh, but I won’t break for there’s no escape
From all that she said
It’s still in my head
Now I know she’s not fooling around
You know she’s one of a kind
And I’m leaving the silence behind
It only took a second for a wild girl to beckon
She worked up a storm in my mind
Oh, the damage I’ve done she’s overcome
The life that I’ve led
I’m caught in her web
Now I know she’s not fooling around.
True love is so warm
Strange but it’s so close to home
She’s deep in my bones
There’s a point you reach that no one can teach
How to break through when you’re long overdue
Peace of mind is so hard to find
I’ll be there soon one lost afternoon
‘Cause I know she’s not fooling around
I’m standing my ground
I can’t let her down.
The lyrics of Hunters & Collectors’ song “She’s Not Fooling Around” tell of a man who has given up old habits and is experiencing a new love. In the past he played little games with women, but this woman is different. He compares her to other women he has been with and realizes that he was wasting his time before. The love he shares with her is something special and he won’t break because of it. The singer admits that he has caused damage in the past, but his new love has overcome it. He knows that she is the one for him and he won’t let her down.
This song is a classic ‘80s rock ballad, with a driving beat and guitars that build to an intense crescendo. It was released as a single in 1984 from Hunters & Collectors’ third album, “The Jaws of Life.” The album was successful in their native Australia and was highly regarded by critics. The song has remained a staple in the band’s live performances and has been covered by other artists.
