Pink and Blue
IDA Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lights are glowing pink and blue
And you say? so loud
People everywhere
My hands are cold, my feet are taught
And I don't know what Im doing here
I see you there, along to have you near
But we are strangers
This is a foolish game
You are somebody who I'll never know
We'll have a good time
But you wont know my name
I am somebody who will have to go
Uh uh uh
I'm a? alien
Cant recognise myself
Your eyes have cold my old black eyes
But surgeon hasn't blind
I think I'll fall in love tonight
I'll kiss like yesterday this left not right
But we are strangers
This is a foolish game
Your are somebody who I'll never know
We'll have a good time
But you wont know my name
I'm somebody who will have to go
Oh and when the music stops
The love is gone
The dust is where it ends the dark
Memories are only pink and blue
And when we are reaching high
For reasons why we lefted? in the night
You and I, you and I are through
Because we are strangers
We're just strangers

Uh uh uh
Uh uh uh

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of IDA's "Pink and Blue" paint a vivid picture of a bustling club or party, with lights casting an otherworldly glow in shades of pink and blue. The singer is overwhelmed and possibly out of place: "People everywhere, my hands are cold, my feet are taught / And I don't know what I'm doing here." Despite this uncertainty, the singer sees someone that they long to connect with: "I see you there, long to have you near." The sense of longing and disconnection is emphasized throughout the song - while the singer and this other person may have a good time together, they cannot escape the fact that they are strangers: "You are somebody who I'll never know / we'll have a good time / but you won't know my name."

The chorus seems to acknowledge that this connection is fleeting and ultimately inconsequential: "When the music stops, the love is gone / the dust is where it ends the dark / memories are only pink and blue." The use of "dust" and "dark" suggest that this connection will inevitably be forgotten, just like dust settles and darkness falls. Finally, the song is bookended by the repetition of "we are strangers," emphasizing the fundamental disconnect between these two people.
