I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A moving stream
It's time to go
Torn apart
Once again

Disturb and resolve
The memories of you
Wearing down that we're through
Moving in circles

Watching your eyes
Balance on my part is lost again

A moving stream
The memories of you
Sleeping at night
Now we're through

Moving in circles
Glisten outside

Torn apart
Once again

Overall Meaning

When first listening to I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness's song "I Want to Die in the Hot Summer," the lyrics may seem bleak and dark. The overall tone of the song is morose, hinting at themes of heartbreak, loss, and an unrequited love. The lyrics of "A moving stream, it's time to go" frames the song to be about the inevitability of moving on. Perhaps, the singer has made a decision to leave a significant other and is struggling with the transition or possibly trying to recollect their thoughts. The following line, "Torn apart once again," suggests that this is not the first time the person has gone through a heartbreak of some sort.

Moving through the lines "Disturb and resolve, the memories of you," gives prominence to a person who is struggling to cope with the memories of their past relationship. They are caught in a cycle of trying to reconcile their feelings and move on, but the memories keep holding them back. The haunting lyrics "Watching your eyes, balance on my part is lost again" highlights the moments where the singer is trying to keep it together but ends up failing and crumbling. The cycle of memories and the inability to balance feelings are continuing in the repeating lines "moving in circles."

The final lines of the song, "Sleeping at night, now we're through, moving in circles, glisten outside, torn apart once again" implies finality. The person has come to accept that the relationship is over, but they are not over the emotional pain. They are still moving in the same circles of hurt and remembrance, and everything around them glistens, but they are mourning.

@SumRom

Just saw the video and i had to make one of my first comment on Youtube, the author of the video i a pure genius.

I think there is more than 1 interpretation but there is mine :

Darkness is society.

The crow is trying to reach a goal that society defined as a must-have.
Dark objects that hits the crow are the representation of consumerism. For example, the paper sheet is the medias.
The crow's capacity to fly is the envy to get more of those dark objects, in order to reach the goal.
The rope is the representation of the ways that society makes hard to get this ultimate goal.
The energy of the crow is the current working model for 'economic power'
The light is the place designed for the 'richer' crows

The owl is those aware of the situation.
Maybe the owl could be the ones that take profit to this situation or even had made this situation possible !
Owl does not need to fly to the goal, she don't need to use her energy for that.
Owl knows what is behind the light : nothing really exciting

In conclusion the owl is the elite that chose to stay in darkness, because she does not want this situation to end.
And that's why she seems quite scary.

Up to you to imagine why the owl does not cut the rope ;)

Potato - For long post and bad english

@DystruktoBoi1

This isn't about people and "the man" - Or at least that isn't how I interperate it.

The Crow can represent anything or anyone, in a bad situation struggling for freedom (or towards a goal) The junk flying at it is the bullshit everyone faces keeping it down, stopping it from succeeding, and of course the string is the main reason it cannot escape its current situation.

The Owl is a representation of a person in the position to help them. At any moment The Owl could cut that string and set The Crow free.....

The thing about this song is that at one point in our lives, all of us will be both The Crow, and The Owl - and the video stops before it shows what The Owl does.

Does it stand and watch? Does it set The Crow free? What kind of Owl would you be? Who is your Owl when you are The Crow?

@brandon7891

All valid/awesome comments aside.
I think it's possible the video could be totally ambiguous.

I find it interesting, that people find meaning in everything etc, a type of closure, when it could simply be an unfortunate bird caught in all our rubbish, while an owl checks him out, hypnotized by the bouncing rope/string.

I'm assuming owls don't rummage that much so the owl wouldn't make a mistake as to be tangled like the other bird is.

Not as imaginative I guess, just pondering.
You could go insane analyzing things like this.
Like does it focusing on the lipstick bring the relationship element into it?
Scumbag brain, bed time I think.

Reminds me of The Story of Two Birds, from Mandukya Upanishad ~ 2,300 years ago

"Two birds, inseparable companions, perch on the same tree,
one eats the fruit, the Other looks on. The first bird is our
individual self feeding on the pleasures and pains of this world;
The Other is the universal Self, silently witnessing all."

Either way, both the music and video is impactful. Leaves room for lots of personal interpretations. Thoroughly enjoyed!

To this day I get the chills watching this video. I remember first seeing it and hoping that a decade later, I'd still consider it one of the best videos ever made. Still feel that way.

@scarystrix9625

This speaks to me on so many levels. How I love this song.

@Eeriekid

The crow in the video is trying to escape the darkness and the waste that is being accumulated in it. However the owl although unteathered does not flee from the darkness but remains in it. This speaks to the universal phenomenon of escapism. Trying to transcend the dark and messy. Its ironic and oxymoronic those who can fly out of the darkness don't and those who can't fly out of it want to. There is a lot that relates to existsential depression In this video

+Jose Alejo my brother helped compose this song, you actually figure it out. im surprised to see this on ftwd

@sugarskull69

Yes...

@RubberPunchDK

Yet, it is the Crow that adds the music (vibrating string), even if he doesn't know it. The Owl does not create anything. A conscious Crow could use strings to be creative (aka. the Muse).
