The multi-cultural melting pot exposed her to a community of collaborators that set her on a path to finding her sound: finely-spun, nocturnal pop dreamscapes.
Coming from a family of dancers, Ida Just had been drawn to expression and performance. Though singing in choirs as a child allowed her to hone her crystalline vocals, it was only in her early teens, after years of confiding in her journals and channelling her emotions through poetry, that she discovered the euphoria of singing her own words.
Her debut single, “I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend” is an exercise in catharsis, seeing Just confront her feelings about a fragmented relationship in the wake of a break-up. ““I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend” is a song about being stuck in limbo. It was the first time I was honest with myself and how I was truly feeling. It was the beginning of accepting the situation and made me realise that I had to be completely transparent with my emotions if I were to ever feel better again.”
Ida Just materialised her vision for her debut release with Danish director, Dolcerocca. She intended for the visuals to reflect her homeland and its identity, filming on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Just wanted to capture a dichotomy of perfection and destruction; fragility and aggression. The dream-like universe built of dramatic, natural landscapes accentuates Just’s intention of showing just how unnatural the relationship was when stood in contrast.

Someone That I'm Not
Ida Just Lyrics
I got my hopes up high
Before you were even mine
Under a microscope
Told you what you wanna know
Too quick you called me love
So I thought I was enough
And every warning sign
Mistook for butterflies
Every touch felt like the first
Kissed my neck to quench your thirst
Tell me was I just another temporary fix for you?
For you?
Lay your hands all over me
Thinking you’d be good to me
Tell me was I just another temporary fix for you?
Made it real with every touch
And it all became too much
I think you made me into
Someone that I’m not
Made me feel like I was safe
So I tried to let you in
But you made me into
Someone that I’m not
You started making plans
Said I was worth a chance
Begging for a second try
Just to have me one more night
Now you say you’re needing space
Forgot to tell me face-to-face
Now I know I’m just another temporary fix for you
Made it real with every touch
And it all became too much
I think you made me into
Someone that I’m not
Made me feel like I was safe
So I tried to let you in
But you made me into
Someone that I’m not
(Tell me was I just another temporary fix for you)
You made me into
Someone that I’m not
You’ve got standards I can’t please
Made up stories making me
To someone that I’m not
I told you from the start
Let’s just take it day by day
Faking reasons you can’t stay
Knowing you were falling
Made it real with every touch
And it all became too much
I think you made me into
Someone that I’m not
Made me feel like I was safe
So I tried to let you in
But you made me into
Someone that I’m not

I typically gravitate to roots music (she’s got it!) I hear sweet sincerity in her lyrics. The strings and guitar work are spot on! Cheers to great music!
