Out of Africa
In Decades Decline Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Veins pumping with evil,
Drugs administered against their will.
Operation "no living thing".
Killing, burning, shooting evrything.
"God won't blame me for that",
Future prosperity in their hands.
Machetes hack enemy's extremities,
Handicapped for life, lucky to be alive.

Young child sniper,
Captured and treated accordingly.
Everyone potential enemy,
Rebel forces your only family.
Arm a prepubescent,
And force him to shoot his parents.
Make his friends human shields,
Or burn them if they refuse to yield.

A country at war over diamonds,
The greatest symbol of love.
Western vanity funds their butchery,
As bodies pile up before the mortuary.
The west looks the other way,
While purchasing death every day.
"Africa, the responsibilty of everyone.
We must accept it's problems and resolve them"

Empty rhetoric once again,
Soothing words but the debt remains.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Out of Africa" by In Decades Decline paint a vivid picture of the atrocities committed during the conflicts in African countries. The first stanza begins with the idea of evil coursing through the veins, which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The second line is a reference to forced drug administration, which was used as a control method for captives in many conflicts. The line "Operation 'no living thing'" refers to the complete destruction of towns, often perpetrated by government forces. The next line describes the senseless killing that occurs during these operations, with an emphasis on the lack of regard for life.

In the second stanza, the focus shifts to the use of child soldiers, a common practice in African conflicts. The line "everyone potential enemy" speaks to the paranoia and fear that governed the actions of soldiers during these wars. The next line is particularly disturbing, as it describes the forced recruitment and manipulation of children. The line "make his friends human shields" is another example of the disregard for life that was present in these conflicts. The third stanza is a commentary on the diamond trade, which fueled many of the conflicts in African countries. The line "Western vanity funds their butchery" refers to the fact that Western countries were buying these diamonds, often without regard for the human cost. The song ends with the idea that while many people talk about fixing these problems, little is actually done.

@Dwight williams Why yes Dwight I am. In fact as we speak I'm:

1. Using our national scholarship funds to pay for deserving STEM students instead of Communication degrees In the US/UK for the nephews and nieces of our ministers.
2. Creating employment rather than telling the unemployed Youth to find their own jobs
3. Properly allocating resources from lining the pockets of thieves towards building infrastructure.
4. Supplying our hospitals with basic oxygen tanks instead of using that money to fund our Politicians' flying to the US/UK for medical services.
5. Stopping the sale of government land to individuals for bribes.
6. NOT passing homophobic Laws in 2021 in order to distract the country from the real issues by inciting disagreement over a non-issue.
7. Incentivizing more participation in STEM fields through active recruitment and better remuneration.

Yes I am doing all of these things (and much, much more) as a concerned citizen on top of paying the salary of those whose job it is to do them. After all, why should a country's government be expected to do their jobs when the individual citizens can just get off the sidelines and "help their motherlands"? I was thinking of tackling corruption at the DVLA by myself next, but I want to leave some "helping" for my fellow Ghanaians to do.

So, basically, even if there are improvements in terms of education and people become more skilled and talented, those people can't contribute anything into the economy very well, because of their corrupt government, which results to migrating into a wealthier country.

sAgE!

The education in Uganda, Africa, was great until corruption happened lol, but part of what you said is true, the very educated people left the country and started families abroad...

The western powers have tried to control who runs African countries. The best case of western involvement in the murder of elected heads of state is that of Patrice Lumumba of the Congo, murdered with the complicity of Belgium and the USA in 1961. Lumumba was a pan-Africanist and believed in the necessity of freeing Africa from European economic domination. The USA got involved in his removal from power as they were interested in the Congo's copper, diamonds, cobalt, oil, uranium, and other minerals.
The corrupt Mobutu then ruled until 1997, acting as the USA's watchdog. He suppressed all attempts in his own country to stop exploitation by the neo-colonial powers. USA also paid him billions for this.
Recent investigations also confirm the contemporary allegations of the USA's involvement in the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah, the socialist, pan-Africanist president of Ghana in 1966.
