I Want To Know
Inhabited Lyrics

Are you here, you here, you here with me
Are you here, you here, you here with me
I need to feel you here, feel you here with me

You're everywhere I go
You are the water that heals the broken soul
You're in the whisper that moves the leaves
You're in a stranger's smile I meet on the streets
But I need you here, I need you here
I want to know, I want to feel
I want to see you move underneath my skin
I want to hear, speak to me
I want to feel you breathe, I want to feel you breathe through me

You're everywhere I go
You are the fire that burns and takes control
You're in the words that bring me life
You're in the starlit sky that sings in the night
But I need you here, I need you here

I want to know, I want to feel
I want to see you move underneath my skin
I want to hear, speak to me
I want to feel you breathe, I want to feel you breathe through me

Won't you come and breathe through me
Won't you come and sing through me
I'll wail, I will wait for You
And there's nothing that can change my mind
I've seen your face a thousand times
I believe in You
I believe in You
And there's nothing that can change my mind
I've seen your face a thousand times
I believe in You
I believe in You

I want to know, I want to feel
I want to see you move underneath my skin
I want to hear, speak to me
I want to feel you breathe, I want to feel you breathe through me

Are you here, you here, you here with me

Are you here, you here, you here with me
I need to feel you here, feel you here with me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Inhabited's song "I Want to Know" speak of the yearning desire to feel the presence of someone who is not physically present. The repetition of the question "Are you here with me?" highlights the sense of loneliness and the need for the other person's presence. The verse describes how the person is omnipresent in small things like leaves rustling and stranger's smiles, but the yearning to feel their presence is so deep-seated that the singer still asks for their immediate presence. The second verse reiterates the point that the person is ubiquitous and goes on to describe how they control the fire, bring life to words, and create beautiful starlit skies. But despite all their majesty, the singer still needs them here, physically with them.

The chorus is an urgent appeal for the physical presence of the person. The desire to see them, feel them, and hear them is so intense that the singer is asking them to come to breathe and sing through them. They express the willingness to wait, to wail for them, and the unshakeable belief in them. The singer's belief in the person is so strong that nothing can change their mind, and they have seen their face a thousand times. The song ends with a plea for the other person to be with the singer, to feel them, and breathe through them.
