She lost her parents. Brainwashed by Einzberns and Angra Mainyu that her father abonden her. Forced to take part in many extremelly painful experiments and nearly suicidal training practices.
Illya never wanted to take part in Holy grail war. Because it would end with her dying whether she would lose it or win it. Because she couldn't stop functioning as holy grail
She would collect servant souls whether she likes it or not.....
Sakura life was living hell that is true.
The thing is Sakura at least had Shirou and Taiga that actually shown her true genuine kidness. She also had friends in school.
When Illya was surrounded by mindless robots, that were not even capable of speech.

@ivanbluecool to be fair, I would not fault Shirou’s reaction to save Illya if he found out she was his sister. Similarly, I do not fault Shirou’s reaction for saving Taiga as she is like family to him. Dying for a stranger? No bueno. Come on Shirou, you can’t save everyone if you are willing to sacrifice yourself for a stranger. Dying for a family member and/or friend? Well warranted and respectable.
