"Legendary in their own minds, the members of IRON LUNG CORP love to look back in history and wax poetic about the grand old days of industrial rock in its heyday, or as others call it, the birth of coldwave.
As the story goes, both Acumen Nation and The Claypeople were headed out on Acumen's first US tour ever back in 96. Along the way, the 2 bands put a cover together of Nitzer Ebb's classic "Join in the Chant" and even threw in a little "Murderous" for medley fun... "Join in the Murderous Chant"
When Reconstruction Records head honcho Chase saw them perform it live at the Whiskey in LA, he threw down the gauntlet and said the 2 should do a side project. But, instead of telling Chase the truth, that there really was no project, just the cover, the boys blurted out a story and told Chase they had a name, a dozen songs, even a band mascot... and were able to siphon a few grand out of Cargo's pocket to cover booze, food and a few days at Chicago Trax to record an album... 6 years later, they did it again, this time convincing themselves they really had a bunch of songs, a band, a tour bus, a marketing budget... Nemesis
Iron Lung Corp Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tinkerbell and Jack the ripper
Love has no meaning, not where they come from
But we know pleasure is not that simple
Very little fruit is forbidden
Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong
But you know evil is an exact science
Being carefully correctly wrong
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody's happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home
We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans
Centaurs and monkeys just cluster round us
We drink elixirs that we refine
From the juices of the dying
We are no monsters, we're moral people
And yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendor of our achievement
Call in the airstrike with a poison kiss
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody's happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home
How bad it gets, you can't imagine
The burning wax, the breath of reptiles
God is not mocked, he owns our business
Karma could take us at any moment
Cover him up, I think we're finished
You know it's never been so exotic
But I don't know, my dreams are vicious
We could still end up with the great big fishes
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody's happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody's happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody's happy as the dead come home...
The lyrics to "Nemesis" by Iron Lung Corp explore the themes of pleasure and evil in a surreal world of fantasy and myth. The song begins by describing a "jungle of the senses" where Tinkerbell and Jack the Ripper reside. Love has no meaning in this world, but pleasure is not simple either. The lyrics suggest that even taboo or forbidden fruits can provide pleasure. However, this pleasure can be elusive and vulnerable, with the singer admitting that "sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong."
The song then takes a darker turn, with references to priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals, and the concept of parthenogenesis (the ability of certain species to reproduce without mating). The ominous "big black nemesis" appears, and the refrain emphasizes the stillness and silence that falls upon the world as death arrives: "No one move a muscle as the dead come home."
The singer reflects on the irony of their situation, feeling like Greeks or Romans with their penchant for pleasure, yet lacking the guilt or remorse associated with the more traditional ideas of good and evil. The lyrics continue to explore their perverse achievements and the self-destructive nature of their dreams. The song ends with the repeated refrain of "Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals, everybody's happy as the dead come home, big black nemesis, parthenogenesis, no one move a muscle as the dead come home."
Overall, "Nemesis" is a surreal journey into a world that is simultaneously pleasurable and disturbing, highlighting the darker aspects of human nature in a fantastical setting.
