Kiss and Tell
Isley Jasper Isley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell a story, make it sound provocative
Just a little more spice to a secret that you'll give
Don't you talk to anyone, it's understood
Oh baby, well, it's just too bad if it's just too good

Well, I need you to know (I need you, need you to know)
There's someplace you can go (Can go)
I want you to see (Want you to see)
That you can put your confidence in me
(You better put your confidence in me)

And baby, you might as well
If you're gonna kiss and tell
Baby, you might as well
If you're gonna kiss and tell
(Kiss and tell)

People follow you everywhere you go
But they only wanna use you for what you know
Every face is gonna smile like it's alright
Better brace yourself for a bumpy night

Well, I need you to know (I need you, need you to know)
There's someplace you can go (Can go)
I want you to see (Want you to see)
That you can put your confidence in me
(You better put your confidence in me)

And baby, you might as well
If you're gonna kiss and tell
Baby, you might as well
If you're gonna kiss and tell
(Kiss and tell)

Well, I need you to know (I need you, need you to know)
There's someplace you can go (Can go)
I want you to see (Want you to see)
That you can put your confidence in me
(You better put your confidence in me)

And baby, you might as well
If you're gonna kiss and tell
Baby, you might as well
If you're gonna kiss and tell
(Kiss and tell)

Overall Meaning

The Isley Jasper Isley song "Kiss and Tell" is about the dangers of gossiping and revealing secrets. The song suggests that people should keep their secrets to themselves and not share them with others. The lyrics encourage people to trust in the singer to keep their secrets confidential: "Don't you talk to anyone, it's understood. Oh baby, well, it's just too bad if it's just too good. [...] That you can put your confidence in me." The song also speaks to the idea that people will use others for their knowledge and information, and that people should be careful about sharing their secrets with others, as they may not have their best interests in mind.

The chorus of the song, "Baby, you might as well if you're gonna kiss and tell," suggests that once you have revealed a secret, you might as well continue to share it, as the damage has already been done. The repeated use of the phrase "kiss and tell" emphasizes the idea of revealing intimate details about oneself or others.

Wow! This is my first time ever hearing this song & Marvin Isley sang lead on it? Man, good stuff right here. I gotta add this one to my playlist too. Great post my friend.

Hey Tyrrone, please check out Isley, Jasper, Isley's "Kiss and Tell (Extended Mix)" from that same album, "Broadway's Closer to Sunset Boulevard." I downloaded it from Amazon Music this Summer. You'll like that version, too, Bruh!

I did not know that all three of them did lead vocals! Amazing trio from the legendary band of brothers!

K Law

Yeah, all of them can sing, the whole Isley family to tell you the truth. The Isley's are lengendary and in a lot of music hall of fames including the Rock & Roll HOF. A incredible family of talented brothers that have been singing since the 1950's and that's crazy to span that long a time. But the best singer of all of them and the most famous one is Ronald Isley aka Mr. Biggs! LOL

SIGMAMAN69

Great idea for the Isley musicians to do their own thing for a while! They were all excellent and underrated!

R.I.P Marvin Isley you were one hell of a bass player

SIGMAMAN69

He was as underrated on bass as Ernie is on guitar!

Guitar Dave

I remember when I was little and I heard "Climbing Up The Ladder" , which has Marvin's pronounced bass playing . I must say that their music shaped how I play till this day . The Isley Brothers are a group of music Masters .

This was one of the Late Marvin Isley favor songs as he would take a long ride with me from time and time to events in Chicago we talked about music a lot. He wrote this track would sing it in my SUV in the 2 years before this death. We got share great times together in Chicago with his son Cory Isley and my own artist Debra Jackson some my best times too in life. RIP Marvin Isley you did your job of being a great person that share the joy in music.
