As he suddenly had plenty of time (no candle light dinners anymore), he picked up the instrument one evening and soon became fond of it. It took him considerable time to discover that the "guitar" was actually an ukulele and it took a massive effort to learn to play the instrument. In the beginning his aim was learning to play the ukulele and he mostly covered other artists' songs. His first public performance was at a friend's birthday, when he sang a song he wrote about him to the melody of an already existing song. The reception he got was encouraging and inspired him to write more lyrics. During this period he also started to compose and became fascinated with the whole process of creating music. The idea of producing and distributing his own material started to take form.
Throughout the learning process he took constant ridicule from his friends who claimed that the ukulele didn't suit the rock songs he attempted to write. His friends' limited belief in his vocal and instrumental qualities was an inspiration, so he made a promise to produce a CD with his own songs under the artist name J-uke ("J" for Jon and "uke" for, you guessed correctly, ukulele!). His friends were still skeptical; hence the title "Told you". Enjoy!

Waiting all day for the night to fall
Waiting in line, looking for a sign
See who hides behind it all
Trying to resign from the heartache
Trying to invite better days to come
It ain’t worthwhile trying to reconcile
With the man that I’ve become
When I’m gonna back down
Like I know it’s no use waiting for
You to turn around
These wings are never gonna fly straight
Always in search of a better view
With or without always was in doubt
When it came to me and you
One of these days’ll be too late
Never get back what was once before
Live and let live, if you can’t forgive
Or hold your peace forevermore
And you know it’s no use asking
When I’m gonna back down
Like I know it’s no use waiting for
You to turn around
If I go down
It’s not without a fight
And not ‘cause I was wrong
But maybe you were right
But I’ve found
At the end of every night
Another day will break
Another day will break
And one day I just might
Still here waiting for the night to fall
When my regrets come out to play
No one’s talkin ‘bout forever
All I ask is one more day
If I go down
It’s not without a fight
And not ‘cause I was wrong
But maybe you were right
But I’ve found
At the end of every night
Another day will break
Another day will break
The day that I go down
It’s not without a fight
And not ‘cause I was wrong
But maybe you were right
But I’ve found
At the end of every night
Another day will break
And one day I just might
The lyrics to J-uke's song "Daybreak" portray a sense of longing and inner turmoil. The song delves into the emotions of waiting for change, seeking redemption, and questioning the path taken. It begins with the singer expressing their longing for the daybreak, symbolizing a fresh start or a new beginning. They have been waiting all night and all day, emphasizing the desperation and hope for a significant shift in their life. The line "See who hides behind it all" suggests that they are searching for answers and trying to uncover the true meaning behind their struggles.
The lyrics then touch upon the singer's attempt to overcome heartache and invite better days into their life. However, they acknowledge the futility of trying to reconcile with the person they have become. There is a sense of resignation and acceptance of their flaws and mistakes. The singer acknowledges that their wings may never fly straight, suggesting a constant search for a better perspective or a happier state of being. The doubt regarding their relationship is also expressed, hinting at a challenging dynamic between the singer and another person.
Amidst the longing and uncertainty, there is a sense of determination and resilience. The singer declares that they will not go down without a fight, even if they may not necessarily be in the wrong. They have discovered that at the end of every night, another day will break, providing a glimmer of hope for a brighter future. The final line suggests that one day, they might finally find the resolution and closure they seek.
