Verse 1
c long time ago, the people in bondage
So they cried out loud to God.
He listened to them and sent in a man
He would use to set them free.
He went to the ruler, turned a staff into a snake.
cnd said, “LET MY PEOPLE GO”.
Chorus 1
He is the Lord our God.
He will reign forever.
He will rescue and redeem us
cnd deliver us from you.

But the king didn't listen...

Verse 2
So, He turned their river to blood,
Then sent frogs and gnats and flies.
Destroyed all their animals.
Next came boils and hail and locusts.
Before darkness three straight days.
Then only the sons under the blood of the lamb
Were saved that Passover night.
So, “LET MY PEOPLE GO”.

Chorus 2
He is the Lord our God.
He will reign forever.
He will rescue and redeem us
cnd deliver us from you.

cnd the king finally listened...

Verse 3
So, they went on their way.
But the king changed his mind
cnd he trapped them by the sea.
The Lord answered again, He opened the water
cnd His people walked on through.
Then the enemy went to follow them,
But were quickly washed away.
cnd He LET HIS PEOPLE GO. They all sang,

Chorus 3
He is the Lord our God.
He will reign forever.
He will rescue and redeem us
cnd deliver us from you.
He is the Lord our God.
Glorious in power.
Providing strength and faithful love
He will always see us through.

But the people complained...

Verse 4
Where is the food? Where is the water?
We were better off before.
Once again, God provides for them
cs they walk the desert floor.
He leads them to the foot of a mountain
Where they agree to live for Him.
Now they will be in the presence of God.

Verse 5
But it doesn't take long for them to lose their way
cnd turn to a golden idol.
They deserve to be punished.
God is slow to anger, shows them His mercy and grace.
The people build a sanctuary
Where they will worship and obey.
To make His glory known.

Chorus 4
He is the Lord our God.
He will reign forever.
He has rescued and redeemed us
He will always see us through.

Instrumental

cnd what about us today? ...

Verse 6
Just like long ago, God still rescues His people.
But a price has to be paid.
For God is holy, we can't exist with Him
Unless a sacrifice is made.
So, God sent His only Son
Whose blood would set us free.
So we can live forever with Him! We can all sing,

Chorus 5
He is the Lord our God.
He will reign forever.
He has rescued and redeemed us
cnd delivered us from our sin.
He is the Lord our God.
Glorious in power.
Believe, worship and obey.

He will always see us through.
He will always see us through.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to J. Morgan's song "EXODUS" tell the story of the Israelites' journey from bondage in Egypt to freedom. The song draws parallels between the biblical account of the exodus and the salvation offered through Jesus Christ.

In the first verse, the lyrics describe the people in bondage crying out to God for help, and God sending Moses to deliver them. Moses confronts the ruler, performing miracles like turning his staff into a snake, and demands that he let the Israelites go. However, the pharaoh refuses to listen.

The chorus emphasizes God's power and his commitment to rescue and redeem his people from their oppressor. Despite the pharaoh's resistance, God unleashes a series of plagues upon Egypt, including turning their river to blood, sending frogs, gnats, and flies, and bringing boils, hail, and locusts. Only those who were marked with the blood of the sacrificial lamb were saved during the Passover.

In the second verse, the pharaoh finally relents and allows the Israelites to leave. However, he changes his mind and pursues them, trapping them by the sea. God intervenes once again, parting the water so that his people can pass through safely, but then closes it, destroying their pursuers. The chorus is repeated to celebrate God's deliverance.

In the third verse, the lyrics describe how the Israelites start to complain, questioning God's provision of food and water in the desert. Despite their ingratitude, God continues to provide for them as they journey towards the mountain where they will agree to live for him. This sets the stage for a new relationship with God, where they will be in his presence.

In the fourth verse, the lyrics acknowledge the Israelites' recurring tendency to stray from God's path and turn to idols. Despite their disobedience, God shows them mercy and grace, allowing them to build a sanctuary where they can worship and obey Him. The chorus is repeated to highlight God's ongoing rescue and redemption.

Finally, in the sixth verse, the lyrics shift to a reflection on the present day. Just as God rescued the Israelites, he continues to rescue his people today. However, the lyrics emphasize the need for a sacrificial price to be paid, which is fulfilled through the sending of God's only Son, Jesus Christ. His blood sets us free from sin, allowing us to live forever with God.

Overall, the song "EXODUS" highlights the themes of God's power, deliverance, and the importance of faith, worship, and obedience. It draws a parallel between the biblical exodus and the salvation offered through Jesus Christ.
