I don't know why
Jack-E & Benji de la House Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All day long you're asking me what I see in you
All day long I'm answering but what good does it do?
I have nothing to explain

I just love you, love you, and I'll tell you once again
I don't know why I love you like I do
I don't know why, I just do
I don't know why you thrill me like you do
I don't know why, you just do

You never seem to want my romancing
The only time you hold me is when we're dancing
I don't know why I love you like I do
I don't know why, I just do

You never seem to want my romancing
The only time you hold me is when we're dancing

I don't know why I love you like I do
I don't know why, I just do

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jack-E & Benji de la House's song, I Don't Know Why, express the confusion and frustration of a person who is constantly questioned about why they love someone. The first two lines of the song set the tone, with the singer saying that they are asked all day long what they see in their partner. Although the singer tries to answer, they feel like their words fall on deaf ears. The third line, "I have nothing to explain," shows that the singer loves their partner without any particular reason or justification.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase, "I don't know why," emphasizing the singer's confusion about their feelings. Despite this confusion, the singer affirms that they do love their partner, and that they are unable to explain why. The second part of the chorus, "You thrill me like you do," adds to the complexity of the singer's emotions. They are enamored with their partner but are unsure about what specifically causes this attraction.

The final lines of the song reveal that the singer's partner doesn't seem to be as invested in the relationship as they are. The singer notes that their partner only seems to hold them when they are dancing, leaving the singer feeling neglected. This contrast between the singer's intense feelings and their partner's lack of interest adds to the song's overall themes of confusion and uncertainty.

Overall, the lyrics of I Don't Know Why are a heartfelt expression of the confusion and complexity of love, and the difficulty of explaining why we feel the way we do.

People really misunderstand this scene.

That said, this scene depicts 2 important things that the book explains a lil better: everyone's reactions are different to tension.
Louis races to save the kid out of pure instinct and so does Jud while Ellie and Rachel freeze in fear and shock. Jud knows he will never reach Gage, which is why he runs and yells his name wildly in frustration. It happens in real life. People react different. Simple as that.

The second thing that is happening here is the power of the Pet Sematary at work.
The place facilitated this tragedy and Louis was warned of this but he could never understand it, no one could. It just explained better as ''the place gets ahold of you".
From the moment Gage started running after the kite and Louis became distracted, it was all falling into place.

@@mercedesbeatrizescubet6807 Well, I see the similarity but no, it's not the same.

In Final Destination, it is known that Death is stalking them and unraveling its different works to achieve its purpose.
Although, you never see Death in the movies, it is portrayed as a supernatural force that is out to exact the plan it had for its victims originally.

In Pet Sematary, it is a Wendigo.
An ancient Native American demon whose power domain lies in a place where Native Americans laid their dead to rest and believed that the soil had magical powers to bring them back to life.
Once they realized the dead came back to life in a completely evil way because they no longer had a soul and the possession replaced it, they condemned the grounds and stopped using it, as they felt that it was the workings of a malign presence.

Early Native Americans didn't have an actual religion until settlers brought it upon them but they were spiritual and they believed in good and bad forces, just like any other.

Watched this movie as a kid and this scene haunted me. It's literally the reason why I always watch my kids like a hawk whenever they're outside...

@knives5964

Even inside especially when they are young, make sure they never play with a stove or try to put their tiny fingers inside wall sockets. My mom has a way of teaching kids about danger.

@skydive7054

speaking of hawks, there was a video of when a bird picked up a baby and flew off with it while the family was having a picnic in a field, then it dropped it from a hude distance away from the ground after realising it wasnt food

@Phil451

Ngl I laughed when the father tripped and fell then the baby went splat. Like wtf lmao. It just felt so fake at that point.

@cheryleadie2372

@@Phil451 yeah that's the part that always makes me go REALLY??? YOU TRIP RIGHT THERE?! But the kid being run over haunted me as a kid, lived rent free in my mind for the longest time 🙈

@crissyc9831

EXACTLY 👋 I feel the same way. People think I'm overprotective, but things can happen in a instant with a small baby. And toddlers can move faster than what people expect especially when they're chasing down a toy they want.

I saw this movie scene when I was 8 and it traumatized me. The one thing that makes me feel better is seeing both of the men chasing after him, and the fact that the truck flips over...everybody did try to save him.
