Born in a garage, but raised on the road, Jane’s Party is a musical band from the Greater Toronto Area. With catchy hooks, bouncy beats, and sweet vocal harmonies, Jane's Party combines the spirit of the old with new-age "pop & roll", drawing comparisons to bands such as The Skydiggers, Joel Plaskett and Wilco.
In 2009, Jane’s Party established themselves as the "Folk-pop darlings of Toronto" with back-to-back performances at the Now Magazine Lounge in co-ordination with the NXNE Festival. With dates such as The Halifax Pop Explosion, Toronto Indie Music Week, The International Pop Overthrow Festival, and feature performances at The Horseshoe and Hugh’s Room, the band has played over 100 shows alone in the past year in support of their full length album The Garage Sessions. The album was inspired by two independent tours of Northwest Ontario and Eastern Canada, winning over the hearts of anyone within earshot. The Garage Sessions captures the groups ability to compose feel good songs,"which are clean, direct and glowing with warmth" (John Sakamoto, The Toronto Star). Recently Jane’s Party has found themselves sharing bills with acts such as Steve Poltz, You Say Party We Say Die, By Divine Right, Zeus and more…
What I've Been Missing
Jane's Party Lyrics

Show me the way you feel
When its real
Send me a line
Send me the words I need
To believe what ill read
There must be some in between
There must be something to find
Ive been missing this time
What I’ve been missing this time
Show me some style
Tell me about the way this begins
Give me a sign
Make me believe the time
That I spend is divine
There must be some in between
I’ve been missing this time
There must be something to find
I’ve been missing this time
You don’t believe everything that you see
And you can’t understand every moment you live
Or those you’ve been missing
There must be some in between
I’ve been missing this time
There must be something to find
I’ve been missing this time
What I’ve been missing this time
This time
The lyrics of Jane's Party's song "What I've Been Missing" delve into the themes of searching for authenticity, connection, and meaning in life. The opening lines, "Show me a smile, show me the way you feel when it's real, send me a line, send me the words I need to believe what I'll read," express a yearning for genuine emotions and communication. The singer seeks sincerity and honesty in their interactions, craving meaningful connections where words and actions align with true feelings.
In the chorus, the repetition of "There must be some in between, I've been missing this time, there must be something to find" reflects a sense of longing and realization that there is more to discover or understand in life. The singer is grappling with a feeling of incompleteness or a lack of fulfillment, recognizing a gap or void that needs to be filled. This internal search for something elusive speaks to a deeper emotional quest for purpose and significance.
The following verses continue to explore the desire for meaningful experiences, as the singer requests to be shown style, told about beginnings, and given signs to believe in the beauty and significance of the time spent. There is a longing for depth and substance in existence, a hunger for moments that feel transcendent and divine. The repeated refrain underscores the idea that the singer has been missing out on something crucial or profound, indicating a yearning for connection and understanding that has been absent until now.
The final lines, "You don't believe everything that you see, and you can't understand every moment you live, or those you've been missing," suggest a sense of skepticism and introspection. The singer acknowledges the limitations of perception and comprehension, recognizing the complexity of life and the impossibility of fully grasping every experience or person encountered. The repeated declaration of what has been missing emphasizes the ongoing journey of self-discovery and exploration, conveying a poignant reflection on the pursuit of meaning and connection in a world full of uncertainties.
