How Far I'll Go
Janella Salvador Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been staring at the edge of the water long as I can remember never really knowing why

I wish I could be the perfect daughter but I come back to the water no matter how hard I try

Every turn I take
Every trail I track
Every path I make
Every road leads back
To the place I know
Where I cannot go
Where I long to be

See the line where the sky meets the sea it calls me and no one knows how far it goes if the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me

One day I'll go, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go

I know everybody on this island seems so happy on this island everything is by design

I know everybody on this island has a role on this island so maybe I can roll with mine

I can lead with pride
I can make us strong
I'll be satisfied if I play along
But the voice inside sings a different song
What is wrong with me

See the light as it shines on the sea
It's blinding
But no one knows how deep it goes
And it seems like it's calling out to me
So come find me

And let me know
What's beyond that line
Will I cross that line
The line where the sky meets the sea it calls me and no-one knows how far it goes

If the wind in my sail and the sea stays behind me one day I'll know
How far I'll go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Janella Salvador's How Far I'll Go portray the conflict between fulfilling societal expectations and surrendering to the call of one's true desires. The singer, who wants to be the perfect daughter and follow societal norms, finds herself continually drawn to the water, unsure of why. She is aware that she is meant to play a particular role on the island, but she confesses that her true voice sings a different song. She is torn between the pull of the familiar and her curiosity about the unknown beyond the horizon, symbolized by the line where the sky meets the sea.

The lyrics are a reflection of the human desire for exploration and change in the face of societal conformity. The singer's struggle is relatable to many individuals who experience a sense of incongruity between societal expectations and their innermost desires. The song encourages listeners to be true to themselves, embrace their uniqueness, and follow their dreams no matter how distant or incredible they may seem.

After Janella Salvador's uploaded version of "How Far I'll Go" surpassed the views of the original, and resulting to be banned from USA. Then here she is now, doing her rampage entrance walk and revising her own rendition of "How Far I'll Go" once again, especially at Disney+. What a big slap and comeback. Hoping for her to have more exposures in this channel. Tanggapin niyo nalang talaga that she is indeed our Philippine Moana, and ever will be another Disney Princess. ❤️😭💅

and ang reason rin kung bakit nag cover si janella ng how far ill go kasi nag audition talaga siya bilang voice ni moana sa disney but hindi siya napili and ayun nag cover siya but surprising na mas pili ng mga tao ang version ni janella and alicia cara yung covers nila.

Janella really is next to Lea Salonga when it comes to how clear you can hear the words she sang
