They moved to New York to study theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Their original plan was to pursue a career on Broadway, but they soon changed their mind and returned to music. After moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 2003, Monáe founded the Wondaland Arts Society with like-minded young artists, and made a couple of appearances on OutKast's 2006 album Idlewild, where they are featured on the songs "Call the Law" and "In Your Dreams".
By 2007, Monáe was ready to release her first solo work, titled Metropolis. It was originally conceived as a concept album in four parts, or suites, which were to be released through her website and mp3 download sites. After the release of the first part of the series, Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase in mid-2007, these plans were altered following them signing with Sean "Diddy" Combs' label, Bad Boy Records, later in the year. The label gave an official and physical release to the first suite in August 2008, which was retitled Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition) and included two new tracks. The EP was generally well-received by critics, gaining Monáe a 2009 Grammy nomination in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance for their single "Many Moons", festival appearances, and opening slots for the indie pop band Of Montreal. Monáe also toured as the opening act for band No Doubt on their summer 2009 tour.
In a November 2009 interview, Monáe revealed the title and concept behind her album The ArchAndroid. The second and third suites of Metropolis are combined into this full-length release, in which Monáe's alter-ego, Cindi Mayweather - also the protagonist of Metropolis: The Chase Suite - becomes a messiah-like figure to the android community of Metropolis.

I can't wait til we get to rock
I wanna scream and dream and throw a love parade
Is that okay?
Tonight is me and you alone
Won't make a call, won't even write a song
See I've been waiting and waiting for the time to say
Now listen babe
When you're down, and it's hard
And you feel like you've given your all
Baby our love will always keep it real and true
'Cause baby it's a prime time for our love
Ain't nobody peekin' but the stars above
It's a prime time for our love
And heaven is betting on us
Bang bang, I'm calling your name
You're like a fire the world can't tame
I wanna riot til the stars come out and play
Is that okay? Okay
Tonight is me and you alone
Won't take a call, won't even write a song
This'll be a personal private dance
Listen baby
When you're down, and it's hard
And you feel like you've given your all
Baby my love is always right here for you
Yeah
'Cause baby it's a prime time for our love
Ain't nobody peekin' but the stars above
It's a prime time for our love
And heaven is betting on us
It's a prime time for our love
Ain't nobody peekin' but the stars above
It's a prime time for our love
And heaven is betting on us
'Cause baby it's a prime time for our love
Ain't nobody peekin' but the stars above
It's a prime time for our love
And heaven is betting on us
The lyrics of Janelle Monáe's song "PrimeTime" depict a romantic evening between two people who are deeply in love. The singer expresses her excitement and anticipation for the night ahead, emphasizing that it's just the two of them and nothing else matters. She wants to celebrate their love together and forget about the outside world. The chorus emphasizes that it's a prime time for their love as they have each other and nothing else can affect their relationship. She reassures her partner that their love is true and will help them get through the tough times.
The lyrics also suggest that their love is strong enough to conquer any obstacle or challenge. The line "heaven is betting on us" implies that they have the support of the universe behind them, and nothing can stop their love. It's a romantic idea that their love is destined and that they are meant to be together, intertwined with the cosmic forces.
Overall, "PrimeTime" is about the beauty of being in love and how it can make mundane moments magical. The song conveys that true love is about being there for each other through thick and thin, and that nothing can ever change the depth of their affection.
