Need It
Jay Hardway Lyrics

Or was it my reflection
Tell me you're ready to fight
It's all I need to know
Step one: Heart's beating
I'm not even sure if I'm breathing
Step two: Can you feel it?
Am I running after something that's out of touch
Living in a dream where all I wanna do is wake up
I wish I didn't need it
I wish I didn't need it
DROP
I still remember you said
That we would live forever
Tell me you're ready to fly
It's all I need to know
Step one: Heart's beating
I'm not even sure if I'm breathing
Step two: Can you feel it?
I wish I didn't need it
Am I running after something that's out of touch
Living in a dream where all I wanna do is wake up
I wish I didn't need it
I wish I didn't need it
DROP
There was a look in your eye
Or was it my reflection
Tell me you're ready to fight
It's all I need to know
Am I running after something that's out of touch
Living in a dream where all I wanna do is wake up
I wish I didn't need it
I wish I didn't need it
DROP
I wish I didn't need it
I wish I didn't need it
I wish I didn't need it
I wish I didn't need it
The song "Need It" by Jay Hardway is a depiction of a person's overwhelming desire for something or someone that may be out of reach. The song starts with the singer reflecting on a past encounter with someone and wondering if they are ready to fight for a future. The singer states that knowing that person is willing to fight is all he needs to know. The first stanza then leads up to the main chorus where the singer admits to needing something but wishing he didn't. The singer is uncertain if he is pursuing something that may be unattainable and admits to living in a dream where he wishes he could just wake up.
The second verse of the song is an extension of the first verse with the singer remembering a promise made by the person in question to live forever. The singer pleads with the person and wants to know if they are ready to fly, which is another reference to chasing after a dream. The main chorus is repeated again in the second verse with the singer still uncertain about his desires, although he still wishes he didn't need it. The song ends with the same three lines repeated multiple times, further emphasizing the singer's struggle with his desires.

I love this song so much! It makes me feel like it's a classical music, modernized with synths of today. When the apr progression hits I can just hear so much history and past in those notes and melody. Always makes me think of some kind of harpiscord or older piece of classical piano music. Such a lovely track :D
