BOY
Jayomi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You′re so young so boy
Just a young boy
You really don't talk that much boy
What′s going on in your head
What's going on in your head
Cause I never had a friend cept for one time
Maybe I'll just read a book instead
I′ll just read a book instead
Why are you trying so hard to prove yourself
You′re still the same old
Young boy living in a grown man's body
Young boy living in a grown man′s world
Tell me not to give up
But what's the point trying when there′s no love
I'll do what I want to
I′ll do what I want
Thought I came so far
Until I looked until the mirror real hard
I just see what I want to
I just see what I want
Why are you trying so hard to prove yourself
You're still the same old
Young boy living in a grown man's body
Young boy living in a grown man′s world
My hands are going numb my feet have turned to clay
So afraid of change but there ain′t no other way
My hands are going numb my feet have turned to clay
So afraid of change but there ain't no other way
My hands are going numb my feet have turned to clay
So afraid of change but there ain′t no other way
The lyrics to Jayomi's song "Boy" seem to address the struggles of growing up and navigating one's way through life. The repeated phrase "Just a young boy" emphasizes the idea that despite the trials and tribulations of growing up, there is still a sense of childlike innocence and vulnerability that we carry with us.
The line "You really don't talk that much boy" reflects the isolation and loneliness that many young people experience, especially during difficult times. The question "What's going on in your head?" speaks to the complexity of thoughts and emotions that can sometimes feel overwhelming and impossible to express.
The reference to "lunch time" and "never having a friend" suggests a struggle with social anxiety or feeling like an outsider. The decision to "just read a book instead" may be a coping mechanism or a way to escape from the stresses of social interaction.
The repeated refrain "Young boy living in a grown man's world" reinforces the idea that even as we grow and mature, we still carry with us the experiences and challenges of our youth. The lines "Tell me not to give up but what's the point trying when there's no love" convey a sense of hopelessness and disillusionment, as if the singer is questioning whether it's worth continuing to strive for success and fulfillment in a world that doesn't always show kindness or support.
Ultimately, the song seems to be about the struggle to come to terms with who we are and where we fit in, as well as the courage it takes to confront our fears and move forward in life.

I remember having to watch this movie as part of an English lesson and the colour tones, shots and visuals from this movie was beautiful. I got lost in the scenes more than the story itself. Now the mix of this song and movie is simply wonderful…
