Moonlight
Jayomi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Warm is the air, cool is the ground
Walking for days with nobody else around
Looking at you, looking at me
Heavy is a heart that doesn't know where to be
Fading away
Fading away
Into the moonlight
Guardian of the night
Fading away
Fading away
Into the moonlight
Guardian of the
Wandering the city trying to feel alive
Concrete jungle open your arms tonight
Nothing lasts forever, doesn't hurt to try
Are you living life if you're too afraid to die
Fading away
Fading away
Into the moonlight
Guardian of the night
Fading away
Fading away
Into the moonlight
Guardian of the
Some day I will try to change myself
No more sitting high and dry
Take me back to simple days
Fading away
Fading away

Overall Meaning

Jayomi's song Moonlight is a soulful journey of self-discovery, a search for meaning in life. The opening lines of the song strongly set the mood - the warm air and cool ground imply a tranquilness that is juxtaposed with the loneliness of the character walking for days with no one else around. The lyrics "Looking at you, looking at me, Heavy is a heart that doesn't know where to be" express the confusion of the singer that is struggling to figure out their place in the world.

The chorus of the song "Fading away, Fading away into the moonlight" refers to the character's gradual detachment from reality as they wander into the darkness with the moon as their only guide. The lyrics symbolize a letting go of the past and embracing the unknown, addressing the uncertainties that come with life.

The next part of the song portrays the singer as a wanderer in the city, overwhelmed by the noise and chaos of the city. They are seeking a connection with nature in the concrete jungle. The lyrics "Nothing lasts forever, doesn't hurt to try, Are you living life if you're too afraid to die" convey the message that life is finite, and we need to be open to new experiences and take risks.

The final verse ends on a hopeful note that someday the character will change and take action to improve their life. The phrase "Fading away, Fading away" is repeated, emphasizing that we are always in a state of flux, ever-changing.

I love this music! It sounds like and reminds me of an album I used to listen to way back in 1984 by a band called The 77s. They were a Christin rock band and the album (if you can find it anywhere now) was called "All Fall Down." I used to play it endlessly.

I’m scared of being irrelevant. Indie is my favorite genre, and I’m heavily strict with it. The somewhat grungy bass and guitar lines, mixed with the almost shoegaze chillness, yet nostalgic distortion is making it a bop for me, in my situation rn. For the recent years, I’ve been surfing the Internet, having a sense of dark humor, often getting small server riots in sandbox games. I tried to impersonate this in real life, but I’m a freaking introvert, only knowing my advantages in the virtual world. I’m now having problems with a break-up situation, and being relatable again with my close friends. Irrelevance, repetition, offensiveness, relatability. Is it a basic issue that can be solved? Or is it now a complex, similar to that of some small borderland’s governmental history?
