Wait for Me
Jeremiah Freed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I trace the lines that run down your face.
Pouring you in, into disgrace.
I'll sit back as you leave like this,
I get pulled into things I miss.

I am here trying to explain,
It's been so long I can't complain
About the things you said you'd hate,
I don't prefer it, but I can't wait.

No rest for the weary,
No sleep for the tired and distressed.
I guess, there's too much to doubt.
And there's too much to hate,

There's so much, I can't wait.
And I'll wait, I'm still in love like this.
And I guess, it's impossible to miss.
Like the back of my neck

I'm feelin' the strain
Of living without,
Inside of hate.
Will you wait for me?

Or will you call my name?
Will you wait for me?

Overall Meaning

The first verse of "Wait For Me" by Jeremiah Freed describes a scene where the singer is observing someone they care about deeply in a moment of vulnerability, "tracing the lines" on their face. The person seems to be going through some difficulty and is on the brink of making some sort of mistake that could lead them to a state of disgrace. Despite wanting to intervene, the singer decides to sit back and let things unfold, feeling somewhat powerless and self-aware of their own tendency to get involved in situations that they shouldn't. The chorus then speaks to the overall feeling of being burdened with too much on one's plate, leading to restlessness and an inability to turn off one's mind. The singer seems to be fixated on the idea of waiting, expressing a desire for someone to wait for them or to seek out their presence despite all the negativity and chaos around them.

The second verse of "Wait for Me" describes the aftermath of some sort of argument or disagreement where the singer is attempting to explain their side of things. There is a sense of bitterness and regret in the air, as both parties seem to be at fault for not being able to communicate effectively. Once again, there is an emphasis on the idea of waiting, with the singer expressing a hope that things will eventually work themselves out or that someone will extend the olive branch. The last lines of the song are an ambiguous call to action, where the singer asks someone to either wait for them or to call their name, leaving the listener to interpret the meaning in their own way.
