About You
Jesus and Mary Chain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can see that you and me
Live our lives in the pouring rain
And the raindrops beat out of time to our refrain

And you and me will win you see
People die in their living-rooms
But they do not need this God Almighty gloom
There's something warm about the rain
There's something warm
There's something warm
There's something warm in eberything
I know there's something good
There's something good
About you
About you
About you
I know there's something warm
There's something warm

There's something warm
Good about you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "About You" by Jesus and Mary Chain tell the story of two people who live their lives in the pouring rain. The raindrops beat out of time to their refrain, symbolizing the chaos and unpredictability of their lives. However, despite the hardships they face, they remain positive and believe that they will eventually win. They acknowledge the fact that people die in their living rooms, but they refuse to succumb to God Almighty gloom. Instead, they find something warm about the rain and in everything around them. They know that there is something good and warm about each other and that they are capable of overcoming any obstacle.

The lyrics capture the essence of the human spirit and its ability to find hope in the darkest of circumstances. It celebrates the power of love and resilience and encourages listeners to find the good in everything. The song's slow tempo and melodic guitar riffs evoke a sense of melancholy, which perfectly complements the lyrics' themes.

It was sort of like when GNR came out with Appetite for Destruction: It was such a huge hit that the band wanted to bury it and all ties to their previous sound and come out with something different and maybe even bigger and better.

That’s what The Jesus and Mary Chain, in my opinion, did in 1987 when they released Darklands. :)
