Are questions that Jim Wolf asks himself and his once believed soulmate in a song from his major studio release. Entitled "Sleeping with Strangers," it tells the true life tale of falling in love, trying to hold on to it, and then finally, the acceptance of failure to do so. It's about passion and attachment, loss and recovery. It's a lot to deal with, but finely crafted lyrics and infectious melodies make his songs crowd-pleasing favorites that can be danced and clapped along to, just as easily as listened to during quiet moments of introspection.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of John Mayer, Thom Yorke, Elliot Smith, Radiohead, and Stevie Wonder, Jim Wolf takes the familiar archetype in pop music of boy meets girl, boy loses girl and makes it an authentic experience. Each track is full of feeling, pinpointing emotions in a way that resonates like an old picture you keep hidden in the back of your wallet.
A resident of Brooklyn, New York, Jim Wolf has spent the past few years in studios all over New England to produce a flawless version of each track. The song "House of Cards," has become the driving force of the album. Wolf traveled from the Cutting Room in New York City, with Muti-Platinum / Grammy Nominated Producer Anthony “Rocky” Gallo, to Northern MA, Enoch (Weezer's Blue Album), Providence RI and finally up to Buffalo, NY with Mike “Bling” Brylinski (Goo Goo Dolls in house producer) working in 7 studios total with the obsessive quest for perfection. During this time, Jim Wolf has continued to generate and build on his loyal grassroots fan base, playing packed shows throughout the New England area.
Sleeping With Strangers will be released in Summer 2010 and contains 9 songs. Jim Wolf can be booked solo or with his band. House of Cards
Jim Wolf Lyrics

Is burning through the blinds
And the mountain we made
Are clothes we’ve laid
Climbing into the sky
Inhibitions of day
Have melted away
Don’t want you to wake
Cause you’ll leave and you’ll take
Everything my fate designed
Only question here is who’s to blame?
Or will I walk out on you anyway?
Maybe I’ve got no more money
And that’s why you’re running
But it seems so simple now
We all‘ve been dealt
A hand of losers
But I’ll try not to let you down
Keep building your house of cards
I was so numb
Numb in the head
And shot like novocaine
And I can pretend
I know where you’ve been
But I’m still imagining
The worst it could be
He left you for free
In the cold and shivering
Recovered in sweat
I have no breath
But you’re mine now
Only question here is who’s to blame?
Or will I walk out on you anyway?
Maybe I’ve got no more money
And that’s why you’re running
But it seems so simple now
Cause we all‘ve been dealt
A hand of losers
But I’ll try not to let you down
Keep building your house of cards
Overcome the fear in your mind
Well the wind will blow my way
Maybe I’ve got no more money
And that’s why you’re running
But it seems so simple now
Cause we all‘ve been dealt
A hand of losers
But I’ll try not to let you down
Keep building your House of Cards
That's why you're running
But I'll try not to let you down
The lyrics of Jim Wolf's song "House of Cards" paint a vivid picture of a complex and tumultuous relationship. The opening lines evoke a scene of a lazy Saturday morning, with sunlight streaming through the blinds and a sense of intimacy and vulnerability between two people. The image of "the mountain we made" being the clothes they've laid out metaphorically represents the barriers they have built and the vulnerability they have exposed in their relationship, rising like a mountain into the sky.
The lyrics delve into themes of vulnerability, regret, and uncertainty, as the singer grapples with the fear of abandonment and the weight of past mistakes. There is a sense of resignation and fatalism in the face of an uncertain future, with the recurring question of who is to blame and whether the singer will ultimately walk out on their partner. The motif of a "house of cards" serves as a metaphor for the fragile and precarious nature of their relationship, built on shaky foundations and the constant threat of collapse.
The singer reflects on their own shortcomings and insecurities, acknowledging their own numbness and emotional detachment. There is a sense of guilt and inadequacy in the face of their partner's struggles, hinted at by the reference to being left "in the cold and shivering." Despite their own flaws and uncertainties, the singer expresses a determination not to let their partner down, to try to hold their fragile relationship together amidst the chaos and uncertainty.
The closing lines offer a glimmer of hope and resilience in the face of adversity, urging the listener to overcome their fears and continue building their metaphorical "house of cards." The repeated refrain of "Maybe I’ve got no more money, and that’s why you’re running" underscores the financial strain and emotional turmoil that underpin the relationship, but ultimately, there is a commitment to trying to weather the storm and not giving up. The song encapsulates the complexities and fragilities of human relationships, capturing the struggle to hold on to love amidst uncertainty and doubt.
