Strange
Jimmie's Chicken Shack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I feel strange
Half Asleep
At the wheel
Don't you know it feels good
To know you're next to me

We are so...
Strange
In complete
Control of what we choose
Or choose not to be

We are so far gone
We are holding strong
Faces like pictures on a wall
I've never seen before
Still they seem strangely familiar
You count the raindrops as they fall
Strange how the sun shines through it
All

We are so far gone
We are not broken
We are holding strong
We are so

Strange

Does it make you feel
Strange

Overall Meaning

Jimmie's Chicken Shack's song "Strange" captures the nihilistic feeling of being disoriented, but being comfortable with it. The opening lyrics, "I feel strange, half asleep at the wheel," offer a glimpse into the singer's state of mind. They feel strange and half-asleep, which means that they are unsure of themselves and their surroundings, but they also feel numb and detached from reality. However, the feeling of being half-asleep is somewhat comforting to the singer, as they know that they are not alone or completely lost. They find solace in knowing that someone is next to them, even if it does not provide complete security.

The chorus of the song encapsulates the theme of the song: "We are so strange, in complete control of what we choose or choose not to be." The lyrics explore the strange nature of the human condition, where we are individuals with our own self-determinations, yet we are also part of a wider collective. The song suggests that there may be no clear path, no definitive answer to the questions of life. It is up to us to navigate and make sense of our own unique experiences, and to do so with acceptance and a certain degree of detachment.

In conclusion, "Strange" is a song about accepting a sense of disorientation and feeling comfortable with the unknown. It speaks to the human desire to find meaning in the midst of chaos, and the need to find solace in knowing that we are not alone.

This song is off the 2004 album Re-Present, good album!  Jimmy actually co wrote this with Mark Tremonti, guitarist for Creed/Alter Bridge. Tremonti did the guitar work, including the solos for this song on the album version.
