Blurred Lines
Jimmy Fallon The Roots and Robin Thicke Lyrics

Everybody get up
Everybody get up (Hey, hey, hey)
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

If you can't hear what I'm trying to say
If you can't read from the same page
Maybe I'm going deaf
Maybe I'm going blind
Maybe I'm out of my mind
Everybody get up

OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don't need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker

And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me
Everybody get up

What do they make dreams for
When you got them jeans on
What do we need steam for
You the hottest bitch in this place
I feel so lucky
Hey, hey, hey
You wanna hug me
Hey, hey, hey
What rhymes with hug me?
Hey, hey, hey

OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don't need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker
Hey, hey, hey

And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
Everybody get up
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

Shake around, get down, get up
Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What you don't like work?

Everybody get up

Baby can you breathe? I got this from Jamaica
It always works for me, Dakota to Decatur, uh huh
No more pretending
Hey, hey, hey
'Cause now you winning
Hey, hey, hey
Here's our beginning

I always wanted a good girl

I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
(Everybody get up)
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Everybody get up

Everybody get up

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" seem to be about a man trying to woo a woman who he knows wants him but is hesitant to give in. The opening lines express a desire for everyone to get up and dance or party together. The following lyrics suggest that there is a miscommunication happening between the man and the woman he is interested in. He seems to be saying that they are not on the same page and may not be able to connect on a deeper level. He even mentions that he may be going deaf, blind or out of his mind, indicating a level of confusion or desperation.

The next verses focus more on the man's attraction to the woman, describing her as an animal who needs to be liberated. He tells her that she doesn't need any papers or permission to be with him and that he knows she wants him. Interestingly, he repeatedly refers to her as a "good girl" which could be interpreted in a number of ways - is he trying to manipulate her? Does he see her as innocent and in need of his guidance? The chorus seems to repeat the message that the man is aware of the blurred lines between them, but he's still going to try and win her over. The rest of the song continues this theme of flirtation and seduction, with explicit references to sex and partying.

Overall, the song could be seen as a playful ode to the dating game, but it has also been heavily criticized for perpetuating rape culture and objectifying women. Thicke himself has been called out for his predatory behavior and the lyrics of this song have been cited as evidence of his problematic attitudes towards women.
