I didn't really have a problem with her accepting it, I find that some what realistic since she loves her daughter. What I find unrealistic is that she literally goes from just being able to accept her daughter is gay to being totally ok with her kissing her girlfriend in front of her. That's like just taking the training wheels off your bike and jumping on a motorcycle.

Kerry Washington’s acting in this film is sooo good! Even in this scene you can see the struggle in her eyes as she still has this real problem with gay people but she loves her daughter too much to let it get in the way. I just adore her and she was a perfect pick for this character.

@PrincessManitari There was an interview where they explained that Kerry Washington just wanted to be a part of the dance, so they changed her ending. So yes, I agree it was awkwardly rushed, but it's endearing that she just wanted to be a part of the number and Ryan adapted to make it happen.

Fantastic adaptation of the Broadway show. It's hard to believe that show didn't even make it to a year on Broadway. When live theater ramps up again and there are national tours and regional productions of The Prom, this movie is going spur some very good box office receipts.

If I saw this when I was 13 I would have felt seen. Like there was a place for me in the world.
Say what you may, but I can’t help but cry when all those diverse people enter. It’s unbelievable for me how a movie like this got an all star cast and is made by one of the giants of streaming.
I’m so glad for today’s LGBTQ+ teens. This shows them on screen and though a bit too idealistic it’s still beautiful. I can’t imagine what future LGBTQ+ folks are getting, but I certainly hope it’s even better.

That's why I love part " show them all it can be done". My mom was super homophobic in the past, now she is extremly loving towards my queer friends, always takes care and support them what just proves me it it possible to start loving instead of hating. I live in one of the most homophobic country in Europe and when I was growing up I couldn't imagine young kids being open about their identity. It's getting better every year. It makes me so happy to see this scene. Back in high school, I did not understand what being gay meant until I watched Glee and saw it's possible and acceptable to stay a man and still like other men. I wanted to take my crush to prom but I knew in a small province, it would be impossible to do that. Anyhow, I came out to my mom when I was in second year college and I was able to have my first boyfriend when I was doing my thesis. In my college, they held a graduation ball when we are all confirmed to graduate so I brought my boyfriend then even though I was so scared and wary of how everyone would think. This scene just speaks so much of what I went through and I appreciate this kind of showcase in mainstream media. I hope straight people will appreciate their privilege more and be called to be more open minded for an equal opportunity for anyone to be who they really are and love who they really do.

The first time I saw this movie I bawled my eyes out, I related to it so much, especially since almost everything that Mrs. Greene told Alyssa when she came out was told to me by my mom. Second time I watched it, cried again. Third time I watched it with my mom, cause she loves musicals as well and she wanted to see it. Let me preface by saying that my mom and I are good now, it took a couple of years (back in 2005) but we are good now but we never really talked about what happened back then but she loves and is happy when I am happy.

Now when the movie was over (and I saw her crying at a few places) she hugged me really tight and said "I'm sorry" I never thought I would hear that and honestly I didn't think I was holding on to the past but when she said that it was like something was lifted. I watched again after that and I didn't cry, not once. I really had no idea I was holding onto what happened nearly 16 years ago but I guess I was. This is by far my favorite musical.

This hits hard when you're a half non binary and half girl because of your birth genes and you're in love with a non binary, being pansexual and asexual.....I love this movie so munch and this is such a great finale!! I love James Corden!❤❤❤ I just don't get why people find weird that someone doesn't love someone that's the opposite gender or that's gender neutral...just let people love who they love! I watched all the great Broadway musicals when I was a teen and as I became an adult,; Annie get your Gun, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Over the Rainbow, Singing in the Rain, Sound of Music,, Phantom, Joseph and finally,
Prom at 79 years old.....Fabulous! Right up there! Humour, Outstanding Melodies, Dancing and Brave to take on the subject of LGBT. Well done Prom!

Fun fact: The kids entering at 3:31 were entering for the first time so their reactions to everything was completely real. And the crowd clapping at 4:57 wasn't in the screenplay! Everyone was so swept up in the beauty of the moment that they had to clap.
