Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, he later relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, and signed a record deal with Polygram Records in 1992. He rose to prominence after releasing his debut album Everything the following year. He followed it with a series of successful albums under Jive Records, including All That I Am (1997), the international bestseller My Name Is Joe (2000) as well as the multi-certified albums Better Days (2001) and And Then... (2003). Several songs from these albums became hit singles on the pop and R&B record charts, including the number-one hit "Stutter", the top ten entries "All the Things (Your Man Won't Do)", "Don't Wanna Be a Player", and "I Wanna Know" as well as his collaborations "Faded Pictures", "Thank God I Found You" and "Still Not a Player".

Most people don't know this is the best cover version of this song. Actually, Ted Daffan & his Texans wrote and performed this song in 1940. Loved Joe Barry's and Fats Domino's versions, as well!!!

Joe was one of those artists who popped up out of nowhere and recorded a MAJOR classic that was an excellent rendition of a less than stellar tune. Another one of my favorites that I never tired of listening to.

A classic example of the gently rolling style of r&r so clear in Fats Domino's style. I had the great pleasure of meeting the Fat Man at Al Hirt's Club in New Orleans, summer of 1967. A shy man, with a sly and quiet sense of humour; he thoughtfully answered my questions, and was pleasantly surprised that I had attended one of his concerts in the U.K. I was not too familiar with Joe Barry, but now I will listen to his other recordings.Thanks for the upload, jpm! Wow, my parents were friends with Joe in the late 70s in the Gretna/Harvey area. Sold them a big ol' red Lincoln. I still have the single he gave them. He was a neat guy. RIP Joe.

Ole Joe. From my home town, Cut Off, Louisiana. He came into my family’s furniture store one day and tried to convince me to not quit the school band because my teacher wrote a letter to my mom saying I have a gift. Well, I chose baseball and consumerism. Part of me thinks sometimes maybe I should have listened to Mr. Barry. He told me if he would have quit he would have never partied with The Beatles. UNREAL!!! RIP Joe Barry. Louisiana Bayou Lafourche legend.

Five of us recorded this between '59-63. Joe's was the best. His real name was Roosevelt Jones and he had many other hits. BUT, this is my favorite.

I do not feel there is much difference in Joe's and Fats' version of this wonderful classic. When I listen to Joe's other songs he doesn't particularly sound like Fats on those.Some songs, such as this one, almost sell themselves - they are so good. I feel that Fats' voice on this song is richer than Joe's (altho I do like Joe's music) and perhaps because I've heard Fats sing this in person I get a different take on it. I have favorites of some artists who do a same song on my list. - Paula

Take a listen to Mina's version of this tune--or Ringo Starr's. Personally, I like Jim Reeves' version the best. This song was written by Country singer Ted Daffan, who also wrote Born to Lose, which became a gigantic hit for Ray Charles.

His name is Joseph Barrios, Jr. He was my cousin and lived next door to my grandparent's house in Cut Off, LA. We called him T-Joe and he was always good for a laugh. His father, Uncle Joe, was a fun little guy, that always had candy. His momma, Aunt Josephine, lived a ripe old age and T-Joe took care of her a good while. He made his rounds and visited his relatives and was addicted to coffee. Miss him.

Do you have any idea where I could find any of his records?!! I've fallen in love with his music in the past months; his early swamp rock tunes and his later country songs have been an enormous joy. I'm not sure which labels, if any, have reissued his catalog.

Fats did not release his record til 1964... 4 years after he heard Joe Barry singing it in 1960. I would liked to have seen his expression when he heard what sounded like his own voice singing a song that he did not record yet. lol

I read somewhere, I think in a Fats biography, that when Fats Domino first heard Joe Barry singing I'm A Fool To Care he remarked "I don't remember recording this".
