You're the One
John&Yoko Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got chills
They're multiplying
And I'm losing control
Cause the power you're supplying
It's electrifying!

You better shape up
Cause I need a man
And my heart is set on you
You better shape up
You better understand
To my heart I must be true
Nothing left
Nothing left for me to do

You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed

If you're filled
With affection
You're to shy to convey
Better take my direction
Feel your way

I better shape up
Cause you need a man
I need a man
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shape up
If I'm gonna prove
You better prove
That my faith is justified
Are you sure
Yes I'm sure down deep inside

You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed

You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed

You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want
Oh, honey
The one that I want
You are the one I want

Oh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed

Overall Meaning

"You're the One" is a duet between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the 1978 musical film Grease, and it became one of the biggest hits from the film's soundtrack. The song describes the feelings of the two main characters, Danny and Sandy, towards each other, particularly the physical attraction they feel for each other. The lyrics are fun and playful, full of energy and excitement.

The first verse describes the physical reaction that Sandy has when she is around Danny. It's a dramatic way of saying that she is attracted to him and she can't control her feelings. The second verse is Danny's response, telling Sandy that he needs to shape up and be the man she wants him to be. He's telling her that he's willing to change to make her happy. The chorus is all about how they believe they are the ones for each other, and nothing else matters. They both need each other and the love they share is undeniable.

Overall, "You're the One" is a catchy, upbeat song that perfectly captures the youthful energy and excitement of falling in love for the first time. The repeating chorus and the call-and-response verses make it a fun sing-along song that still gets people up and dancing today.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this song, just sucks that THIS version was never officially released :( It was meant for this album but eventually was added to "Milk & Honey" but a stripped down version without the drum looks and the snare (echo) and the backup vocals...I guess so that it could fit in?

Great song to dance to!!! It could have been another "Walking on Thin Ice"

Good song, but yeah Yoko singing is very original, Bonnie Tyler would have made a hit of this song . On the other hand John was right when he said Yoko had talent
