There is a similar scene in The English Patient (1996) which also won a ton of Oscars incl Best Picture/Director/Score except they’re flying over North Africa, the deserts of Tunisia. Also has a very haunting soundtrack. When I see this I’m reminded of that movie and Love is A Many Splendored Thing (1955) which like Out of Africa is a true story that took place in a far off ex-colony with a real life romance with a similar outcome. And an iconic song.( And the man in both couples was not American but depicted as such by Hollywood.)

A movie produced in 1985....
"OUT OF AFRICA".
I have personally experienced the overwhelming emotion of Africa...especially Kenya.
To me it is a country where I have found my 5 human senses open up at the fullest. My visits brought me to declare that God must live in Kenya. Returning home to Rome was always a sad moment. I could have quite easily lived there myself.

I found in this movie "Out of Africa" a strong feeling of nostalgia.
The movie, if you have not seen it, it is definitely worth watching.
This video contains the original soundtrack of the movie....a true enchantment.

@Rio Vega Oh I didn't realize the op was quoting "I had a farm in Africa" from the movie sorry. It's an odd pretty mundane quote. I thought they meant they had one themselves. Which would be fine in my opinion. So when you said you're I thought you meant the op was a colonizer. Yes I think it's pretty clear the main character and her husband in this film are colonizers.

@Rio Vega Or perhaps he purchased the land from the previous owner possibly a local indigenous person but possibly not, under the authority of a local elected government installed by democratic process that included the votes of local indigenous people. I don't know because I don't know this individual nor the person who they got their land from. Do you know the names of the people this person supposedly "kicked off" of their land? If this person somehow stole it I'm sure many will support bringing them to justice. What is the name of the perpetrator? Fill me in on the facts of the case

As man. I like that scene You see, John Barry’s musical score goes great with Sydney Pollack’s direction — It also won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1986. Fun fact: It is based on a true story about Karen Blixen’s days in Africa. Awesome movie, isn’t it? Well, I almost cried during this scene.

I was in college. During Christmas break, I went to New Orleans to visit a lady I met over the summer. I asked her if she'd like to go to a movie and this was our first date. I enjoyed the scenery. But it was the most boring plot I had ever known up to that time in my life. I had to fight to stay awake. Then after this long movie had gone on for what felt like forever, the ending was a disappointment. I never wanted to see another Meryl Streep movie again. it was time I will never get back. I hated it.

I remember seeing this film at a cinema in Stockport greater Manchester called The Davenport it was a single screen picture house seeing this film hear back in 1986 a huge huge screen it really good it a viewing experience and John Barrys Music three later at the same cinema i saw other film The Last Crusade with music from other John Williams

Great score and aerial photography - but worst green screen inserts ever. Always remember the biplane scene at the start of Raiders of The Lost Ark - Harrison Ford was actually flying in a real biplane. Not some fake looking green screen shot.

Quincy Jones composed one of the most beautiful soundtracks of all time for The Color Purple...Truly a masterpiece. But so did John Barry...so is this. It's hard to compare apple and oranges. It was shameful TCP was shut out...Its one of my favorite films.
