it's not his job to jump in the water and help. the life guard got there so fast that if the person recording had jumped in too they would've just gotten in the way. plus it's not safe to try and help someone from drowning without the proper training. I went to a waterpark and I couldn't swim. How I handled it was don't go deeper than I can stand and walk in as long as my head is above water. Also don't try anything risky if you can't swim. Always ask about the stuff before trying it and tell them you can't swim so someone can be waiting to help you if you do try anything.

I do the same thing. Yes, I have tried to learn to swim but my endurance is not good as I was born with heart and lung problems that kept me from building up stamina and such from a young age. I also almost drowned twice lol. It's okay to not know how to swim. You probably should try to learn to swim but some of us are just not designed to do it, and that's fine, just keep yourself safe.

Happened all the time when I was lifeguarding like 10 years ago. Adults and kids are like, I would tell them at the top of the slide at the pool is deep on the bottom and that they have to be able to swim… I would say probably 3/10 people would just not acknowledge it and go, and I need to be saved by the other guard at the bottom… One guy proceeded to get in line and go again directly after being saved… to then be saved again and the banned from the park.

I very much doubt the lifeguard intended that recovery method. Lots of comments seem to think this was on purpose, carrying the guy overhead like that.

Saving someone who thinks they're dying is a very dangerous activity. I almost guarantee the non-swimmer grabbed the lifeguard and held himself up like that in a panic, instinctually getting as much out of the water as possible, completely ignoring that they're literally holding the person saving them completely under water.

If the edge of the pool wasn't so close, this becomes life threatening for the person doing the saving. Imagine saving someone and then having them keep shoving you under to save themselves!

Weird story, but when I was a toddler I was at a pool for my parents wedding. I was sat on the poolside alone, while everyone else was drinking. My dad was in the villa getting ready. I fell forward into the pool and everyone saw but didn’t do anything to help me, and I sank to the bottom. My dad saw through the window and jumped off the balcony to rescue me. I would have died if it weren’t for him. My parents aren’t together anymore, but he’s gotten a lot better at parenting seeing as he was an alcoholic. Merry Christmas 🎄

@Movie Recaps Typically a lifeguard will have a flotation device with them at all times in case someone begins drowning. I can tell you though, as a former lifeguard we do have to react quickly as different people drown in different ways, sometimes we need to protect ourselves by pushing the drowning guest away until another lifeguard can come for an assist. It seems though that in this video the two lifeguards were caught by surprise while rotating shifts so they had to go in for the save without a lifeguard tube.

Lifeguard could’ve done better. For one he could’ve actually been in his high chair. 2, he should’ve had his rescue tube with him. I mean did you see the way he entered the water? Surprised there wasn’t 2 drownings.

I thought I could swim so I did a swim test infront of the whole class on a school trip. I started drowning then had to be saved by the life guard. I blamed it on a cramp in my leg.... it wasn't a cramp in my leg 😔.

Update: even though it's been like 2 months after I posted this comment thanks for all the support and advice. In the end I did learn how to swim after I explained what happend to my dad so I did lie, yes, but I told the truth to my teacher and he contacted my parents.

Lifeguard was not on point at all, he was caught off guard. You can see him just chilling in the background with a towel on his shoulder while his rescue tube is sitting wrapped up on the chair. When he notices the guy drowning, he jumps in without his tube and has to put himself underwater to let the victim get air. Really dumb idea and put himself in danger for no reason

I remember at a water park a kid went down a slide but took awhile to come up, life guard ran over but a 13 year old immediately ran over as fast as possible jumped in and pulled up the terrified kid, people started clapping, the kid said they didn’t have any breath left as they got pulled might have died if that person wasn’t there, god bless the 13 year old who saved the kid
