John Farnham Anthony Warlow Lyrics

When I was younger, so much younger than today-ay-ay
I never needed a-anybody's help in anyway-ay
But now these days are gone
I'm not so self assur-you're-ured
Now I find I've changed my mind
I've opened up the door-oors

Help me if you can I'm feelin' dow-own
And I do appreciate you bein' 'rou-ou-ound
Help me get my feet back on the grou-ou-ound
Won't you please, plea-ea-ease, he-elp me-ee

And now my life has changed, in oh so many ways
My independence, seems to vanish in the ha-aze
But every now and then I feel so insecure
But I know that I just need you, like I've never done before-ore

Help me if you can I'm feelin' dow-own
And I do appreciate you bein' 'rou-ou-ound
Oh help me get my feet back on the grou-ou-ound
Won't you please, plea-ea-ease, he-elp me-ee

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in anyway-ay
But now those days are gone
I'm not so self assured
Now I find I've changed my mind
I've opened up the door-oors

Help me if you can I'm feelin' dow-own
And I do appreciate you bein' 'rou-ou-ound
Oh help me get my feet back on the grou-ou-ound

Won't you please, plea-ea-ease, he-elp me-ee
Won't you please, plea-ea-ease, he-e-elp me-ee-ee

Overall Meaning

The song "Help!" by John Farnham is a cover of The Beatles classic hit, and it talks about the importance of needing somebody in times of trouble. The lyrics suggest a transition from being independent to needing help, which is something that can happen to anyone at any time. The opening lines show Farnham reflecting on his past independence and self-assuredness, but as the song progresses, he admits that his life has changed and that he feels lost and insecure. He reaches out to anyone listening for help to get his feet on the ground again.

The chorus of the song is a plea for help in a time of need. Farnham acknowledges that he is feeling down and appreciates anyone being there for him. He wants to get back to his feet, and therefore asks for help. He repeats this plea twice more, emphasizing how desperate he feels. The overall message is one of vulnerability and honesty, admitting that sometimes we all need a little help.

Overall, "Help!" is a vulnerable, introspective song that acknowledges the shared human experience of needing help at some point in our lives. It's a reminder that it's okay to ask for help and that we don't need to face life's struggles alone.

My father was operatically trained and he said John Farnham was simply the finest singer we’ve ever produced.

Marg Enn

Imagine if John Farnham was trained to sing opera!

Julie Gard

I remember (this will show my age now 😂) watching The Don Lane Show decades ago and a quite young Johnny (as he was known back then) Farnham performed a few songs. The top quest that night happened to be Sammy Davis Jr. and he was absolutely blown away by Johns voice and announced he would be a super star. Got that right Sammy ☺️

Help is a Beatles song.

One thing that nobody mentions about John is his amazing mic discipline. He never has it smashed into his gob, because he knows how to project, and he knows how to move it away so as to keep from overpowering the sound system when he belts. He's especially careful about it when singing with less powerful voices. Master of his game!

Yes, John's mic 🎤 craft is extraordinary!
