John J. Francis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say that you want you a real nigga
Try be more original
Want you a field not a house nigga
Smooth like Jackson
You got your feelings hurt
Say that you want you a real nigga
Try get it Im beggin'
BABY

I aint too good for you
Try be more original
Be more original
You was the criminal
Smooth like Jackson
You got your feelings hurt
Cause you assumed I was feeling you

Try get it Im beggin'
BABY
I ain't too good for you
I'm Occasionally toxic, toxic

But if you wanna stop, let's stop then
You know we can't friends, we blockin'
Deleting the tens, regret then, recheck then
Uber yourself to the spot, my darling

No, that's not toxic, toxic
It's fine
It's perfectly fine, fine, fine
We can discuss it like civilized people
You don't have to whine, whine, whine

Unless it's involving you moving your waist
Try to give me some space but I push you away
They say that I'm weird but we on the same page
I need me a re-up
The fee up
And hit up De Beers
To get us both drippin' and insync
See how I switch up the topic
I guess you rubbing off on me
So confess you have something on me

Say that you want you a real nigga
Be more original You is the criminal
Smooth like Jackson
You got your feelings hurt
Cause you assumed I was feeling you
Try get it, I'm beggin'
I ain't too good for you
It's occasionally toxic, toxic

But if you wanna stop, let's stop then
You know we can't friends, we blockin'
Deleting the tens, regretting, rechecking
Uber yourself to the spot, my darling
No, that's not toxic, toxic
It's fine, it's perfectly fine, fine, fine
We can discuss it like civilized people
You don't have to whine, whine, whine

Told you I'm sorry, re-schedul,e keep calling
You know I've been trying, I'm sorry I'm late
Told you I'm trappin', don't want your involvement
I stay in the sky, how I keep it real plane
Just give me some Wok, and some Top yes that will help a lot

Instead of how you complain, always a debate
How much can I take?
How much can you take till there's nothing to take...

Say that you want you a real nigga
Try be more original
Want you a field not a house nigga
Smooth like Jackson
You got your feelings hurt
Try get it I'm beggin'
BABY
I ain't too good for you
I'm occasionally toxic, toxic

Say that you want you a real nigga
Want you a field not a house nigga
Say that you want you a real nigga
One that's gon' put in the work

And Gon' buy you a farm, and gon' make you a spouse nigga
I'm occasionally toxic, toxic

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of John J. Francis's song "What To Do" delve into themes of authenticity, relationships, and self-awareness. In the first verse, the singer expresses a desire for a genuine partner, emphasizing the importance of being original and not settling for superficiality. The reference to being a "field not a house nigga" suggests a preference for someone who is grounded and true to themselves rather than conforming to societal expectations.

The mention of being "smooth like Jackson" could allude to the confidence and charisma associated with legendary figures like Michael Jackson. Despite this, the singer acknowledges causing pain and misunderstanding to their partner, highlighting their own flaws and toxic behaviors. The repetition of "Try get it Im beggin'" and "I ain't too good for you" underscores a sense of desperation and self-awareness of their own shortcomings.

As the lyrics progress, the singer muses on the complexities of their relationship and the blurred lines between love and toxicity. The mention of deleting contacts and questioning the nature of their connection suggests a tumultuous dynamic fraught with uncertainty and introspection. The reference to Ubering oneself to the spot indicates a desire for separation and distance in order to resolve conflicts.

The chorus encapsulates a plea for understanding and communication, urging both parties to address their issues maturely and respectfully. The singer acknowledges their imperfections and past mistakes while also expressing a willingness to work on their shortcomings. The juxtaposition of toxic behavior with moments of vulnerability and reflection encapsulates the complexities of human relationships and the struggles of navigating emotional turbulence. Ultimately, the song captures the nuances of love, self-discovery, and the quest for genuine connection amidst the chaos of modern romance.

An Iconic song of an entire generation who would drop everything to go travelling up North from Sydney, catching waves and doing the 'nature' thing long before it was a 'lifestyle'. RIP John J Francis.

@@andrewclarke8975 sadly no, I did not. I think I saw him play once at a great venue in Annandale, Sydney back in the mid 70's? The Booth St Dispensary. My name may have come up as I am a musician/singer/songwriter and despite being highly underage (back then) I would always be singing in venues around the traps.

@dpinno7017

I'm an old surfer from the 60's/70's and I believe this song tells a very important story. Thank you JJ for giving us this great music.

@christinebundy3786

He's not on Rockwiz Legends, He didn't reach the hottest 100, but this is THE BEST SONG EVER WRITTEN BY AN OZZIE. Now more than ever this song is THE BEST.

@skeletonkey6

@christopherharris1253

The best surf movie soundtrack ever!

@johnkavanagh5419

This song is Baddy’s song. Growing up in the 70’s in Manly...Baddy was the one ...ran his own race
I enjoyed and learnt from his charisma. Although our generation were younger it was obvious he was a multi generational surfer. Saw him last just before he departed and he still impressed my 15 year old son as a fine surfer. That is hard to do. He died only 2 years later.....RIP David

@threedogs8349
