That's What It's Like To Be Lonesome
Johnny & June Carter Cash Lyrics

Jump to: Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tears keep rolling down your cheek
Your voice gets choked so you can't speak
Every day seems like a week

And that's what it's like to be lonesome

You get too blue to stay at home
But in a crowd you're still alone
You lose the will to carry on

Everyone has a hope that's died
Everyone cries a tear inside
Everyone has a cross to bear
But I've got more than my share

Your mind is built with memories
Your heart cries out for sympathy
An empty blue eternity

Add me to the
list of those who
didn't "discover"
her until late in
life (70), and thru
you tube. She never had any hit
records, and I
only knew of her
from one duet
she sang with Johnny Darrell,
THE COMING OF
THE ROADS, which I heard
over the radio &
subsequently pur-
chased the 45rpm.
This was around
50 years ago. I
never heard her re-
cordings on the
radio save the one
duet I mentioned.
I have no clue why
she was not promoted, as she certainly had
no rivals who could outshine her. If a great many top-notch
songs had come
her way, she would have outsold EVERYBODY!!! A
beautiful woman in all respects.👍

This is exquisitely beautiful.. thank you Carol. I can't understand some of the negative reactions and peoples comments concerning Anita and her sisters on some of the youtube posts I'm seeing. She was absolutely amazing alone and as a whole, were simply stunning with harmony. I feel bad that she dealt with arthritis, for I'm only 34 and suffer bad from it myself. Makes simple tasks sometimes the hardest.
