Rock Billy Boogie
Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'N Roll Trio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, it's a rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie tonight

Well, I know a little spot on the edge of town
Where you can really dig 'em up and set 'em down
It's a little place called, The Hideaway
You do the rockabilly till the break of day

Well, it's a rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie tonight

Well, they kick off their shoes, gettin' ready to bop
They're gonna rockabilly wearin' their socks
You wiggle your hip, feel the thrill
So come on, little baby, do the rockabilly-bill

Well, it's a rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie tonight

Well, there's little ol' Suzie, turnin' seventeen
Well, everybody knows her as a rockabilly queen
And there's Ol' Slim, as quiet as a mouse
He grabs Ol' Suzie, they'll tear up the house

Well, it's a rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie

A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie
A rock, rock, rockabilly boogie tonight

The song "Rock Billy Boogie" by Johnny Burnette is a classic example of a rockabilly song. The lyrics describe a night out where people are gathering to do the rockabilly dance. The song begins with a call to start the dance with the repetition of the phrase "rock, rock, rockabilly boogie" followed by "tonight". All of this is good. The beat is there. You listen intently like I do you can hear shades of Buddy Holly and of course Carl Perkins. and I also can hear how a lot of these guitar players tried and I mean tried to play like Chet Atkins. As much as I liked Chet Atkins on guitar I really voted my attention to the late great phenomenal Johnny Smith who was a country guitar man and then switched to Jazz. Johnny Smith was still the king pin of guitar players. Les Paul was there but I preferred Johnny Smith.

I brought this Cd at Kops Kollectables around 1992 which no doubt changed my life which to me that's when i got serious about Rockabilly Music and the Johnny Burnette Trio pretty much led the way and they may have arguably had the best sound of that genre next to Elvis but we already know that story. Call them underrated but they definitely had the sound of that period more than the Sun artists had.

A

Criminally underrated
