While at school, Allen featured in a number of school bands, playing drums. On one occasion Jon became the lead singer and realized that he was a natural show off. He later attended the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) on a songwriting course. Through this he learnt how to become a more self-disciplined writer. After graduating Jon moved to London, after one of his demos received a five-star review in the magazine Making Music. Management offers in London soon followed, prompting Jon to immerse himself in the live music scene and surround himself with like-minded people. Since moving to London, Allen found himself sharing the stage with artists as Emmylou Harris, Mark Knopfler, KT Tunstall and Jose Gonzalez.
After selling more than 20,000 downloads via his website of Going Home Jon is steadily building up a strong and supportive fan base in the UK. In 2009 he released his debut album Dead Mans Suit which featured the singles 'In Your Light', 'Dead Mans Suit', 'When The Morning Comes' and 'Down By The River'.
On May 22nd 2011, Allen released his second album 'Sweet Defeat' through Monologue Records. His first single from the album, 'Joanna' was playlisted on Radio 2.
'Sweet Defeat' was released in the US via OK! Good Records and can be purchased or streamed here:

Here Tonight
Jon Allen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I wouldn't feel so lonely
I wouldn't need the morning light
I'd be alright if you were here tonight
If you were by my side
I wouldn't feel the cold wind
The distance wouldn't be too wide
Stars go on shining
But they've all lost their charm
Though they keep on trying
They don't move me
Cause you can't be
Here tonight
Here tonight
If you were only here tonight
The day wouldn't seem so far away
Darling don't get me wrong
I'm getting by without you
Most of the time I'm feeling strong
I keep busy when the day is long
But when I close the door
The silence that surrounds me
Always makes me need it more
The feeling that I've been longing for
Stars go on shining
But they've all lost their charm
Though they keep on trying
They don't move me
Cause you can't be
Here tonight
Here tonight
If you were only here tonight
The day wouldn't seem so far away
Here tonight
Here tonight
If you were only here tonight
The day wouldn't seem so far away
The song "Here Tonight" by Jon Allen is a heartfelt ballad about missing someone special. The lyrics express the feeling of loneliness and longing that comes with being separated from a loved one. The chorus repeats the phrase "If you were here tonight" to convey the singer's desire for his loved one's presence.
The first verse describes the singer's loneliness and how the presence of his loved one would make everything better. He longs for their company and believes that having them by his side would make the distance between them feel less wide. The second verse describes how the singer is getting by without his loved one, yet the silence around him reminds him of how much he misses them. The verse also suggests that the singer keeps himself occupied during the day to avoid thinking about his loneliness.
The chorus emphasizes the singer's desire for his loved one's presence. The stars shining in the sky have lost their charm, as they cannot replace the presence of his loved one. The lyrics suggest that having his loved one here tonight would make the day feel less far away, meaning the days would be more bearable.
