Whilst he was at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he formed the pop-opera boyband G4 with Mike Christie, Tom Lowe, and Ben Thapa, three other Guildhall students. Later, due to artistic differences, Tom Lowe resigned as bass, and Matthew Stiff took his place. Their name, G4, comes from the fact that they were all students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and stands for Guildhall 4.
G4 were discovered after finishing second on ITV talent show The X Factor in 2004. G4's self-titled debut album produced by the legendary Trevor Horn and Brian Rawling, reached Number One for Mother's Day weekend 2005 and sold over 245,000 copies in the first week. In total they released 3 albums, sold in excess of 1.5 million albums in the UK, completed 5 sell-out UK tours, sold in excess of 40,000 Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVDs (one of the concerts on their first tour) and also released a best selling autobiography Our Way.
On 5 April 2007, G4 announced on GMTV that they were calling it a day at the end of July 2007.
Jonathan signed with new management Jonathan Shalit in 2007 and secured a £1 million, 5 album deal with Universal Classics and Jazz (UCJ) which is part of the Universal Music Group. He was offered an album deal by the three major labels, EMI, Sony and Universal."[3] His first solo album with UCJ, Tenor at the Movies, was released on 18 February 2008.
For 5 Sunday afternoons from 17th February 2008 Jonathan Ansell presented The Great Movie Composers on ClassicFM coinciding with the release of his solo album.
On 24th February 2008 Jonathan's album Tenor at the Movies went straight to number 1 in the Classical Chart and stayed there for 3 weeks and reached Number 9 in mainstream charts making him the youngest tenor ever to top the Classical Charts.
Who Wants To Live Forever
Jonathan Ansell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's no time for us
There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away from us
Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
De La Grande Bouche:
Come along dearie.
Beast:
There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us
Who wants to live forever?
Who wants to live forever?
Belle, I have something to show you.
But first, you have to close your eyes. It's a surprise!
Belle:
May I open them?
Beast:
Alright, alright. Now!
Belle:
I can't believe it!
I've never seen so many books in my whole life!
Beast:
You like it?
Belle:
It's wonderful!
Beast:
It's yours!
Who dares to love forever?
When love must die
Belle:
Oh, this is one of my favorites!
It's "King Arthur."
Have you ever read it?
Beast:
No.
Belle:
You don't know what you're missing.
I'd love to read this again.
Wait... you can read this first.
Beast:
No, that's alright
Belle:
No, really, you read it
Beast:
Oh, No, you...
Belle:
No, you
Beast:
No! I can't...
Belle:
You never learn to read?
Beast:
Only a little, and long ago
Belle:
Well, it just so happens that this is the perfect book to read aloud. Come here, sit by me
Beast:
But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?
Forever is our today
Who waits forever anyway?
Cogsworth:
Perhaps, who waits forever anyway?
Chip:
What?
Mrs Potts:
Who waits forever anyway?
Chip:
What's there, Mama?
Mrs Potts:
Ssh. I'll tell you when you're older.
Come along now. Let's give them some privacy...
Chip:
Mama?
Mrs Potts:
Yes, Chip
Chip:
Will I ever get to be a boy again?
Mrs Potts:
I hope so
Chip:
When will I know?
Mrs Potts:
Soon. If it's to be. It will be very soon now.
Come along, son.
Belle:
Knowing now, that this was indeed the legendary sword called "Excalibur," Arthur tried to pull it from the stone.
He tried once to no avail. He tried a second time, but still, he could not pull it out. Then, for the third time, Arthur drew forth the sword...
Beast:
So that must mean he's the king!
Belle:
Wait and see
Beast:
I never knew books could do that
Belle:
Do what?
Beast:
Take me away from this place, make
Me forget for a little while
Belle:
Forget?
Beast:
Who I... What I am...
Belle:
We have something in common, you know
Beast:
What is that?
Belle:
In the town where I come from, the people think I'm odd
Beast:
You?
Belle:
So, I know how it feels to be... different.
And I know how lonely that can be
Belle:
For the third time, Arthur drew forth the sword, and there a rose from the people a great shout. Arthur is king.
Beast:
I told you so...
The lyrics of "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Jonathan Ansell discuss how fleeting life can be and the desire to hold onto the moments of happiness forever. The song starts by stating that there is no time or place for people, because just when we start building our dreams they slip away from us. The desire to live forever and to have all the happiness and love available in that forever becomes poignant in the chorus. The other characters' lines within the song seem to be snippets of their individual stories, with Belle introducing the Beast to the possibility of reading and imagination, and the enchanted objects having a quiet conversation about their own desires and hopes. The song concludes with Belle reading to the Beast about King Arthur, and how he finally became king by pulling the sword out of the stone. The Beast's reaction to this story as if he is the king echoes his underlying search for a new beginning and a chance to be accepted.
