Time to Say Goodbye
Josh Groban & Sarah Brightman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And when I dream the words are missing
Yes I know that in a room so full of light
That all the light is missing
But I don't see you with me, with me
Close up the windows, bring the sun to my room
Through the door you've opened
That you met in the darkness
Time to say goodbye
Horizons are never far
Would I have to find them alone
Without true light of my own?
With you I will go
On ships over seas
That I now know
No, they don't exist anymore
It's time to say goodbye
When you were so far away
I sit alone and dream of the horizon
Then I'd know that you are here with me
Building bridges over land and sea
Shine a blinding light for you and me
To see, for us to be
Time to say goodbye
Horizons are never far
Would I have to find them alone
Without true light of my own?
With you I will go
on ships over seas
That I now know
No, they don't exist anymore
Without true light of my own
With you I will go
Horizons are never far
Would I have to find them alone
Without true light of my own?
With you I will go on ships over seas
That I now know
No, they don't exist anymore
I love you
The lyrics of "Time To Say Goodbye" express a longing for connection and the desire to be reunited with a loved one. The song begins by describing a sense of loneliness and yearning when alone, where even in a bright room, there is a feeling of emptiness and the absence of the person the singer longs for. The lyrics convey the idea that although physically not present, the loved one is still deeply missed.
The song then shifts to a more hopeful tone, as the singer expresses the need to close off the outside world and bring the light and warmth of their loved one into their own personal space. This imagery suggests a desire to create a sanctuary where they can feel the presence of the other person, despite being physically apart. The lyrics allude to the idea that their connection transcends distance and can bridge gaps both physical and emotional.
As the song progresses, the chorus repeats the phrase "Time to say goodbye," which can be interpreted as a bittersweet acknowledgment that they must part ways, perhaps temporarily or permanently. The lyrics continue to highlight the theme of endless horizons, representing the infinite possibilities and potential they could explore together. The line "Without true light of my own" signifies the profound impact the loved one has had on the singer's life, emphasizing their importance and the void that would be left behind if the connection were lost.
The final repetition of the chorus reaffirms the commitment to go wherever their loved one may lead, even if the physical ships and the places they once knew no longer exist. The closing declaration of "I love you" encapsulates the depth of their feelings and a sense of holding onto love even in moments of parting.
Overall, the lyrics of "Time To Say Goodbye" convey a yearning for connection, a willingness to overcome obstacles, and a deep love that transcends physical separation.

Quando sono solo
Sogno all’orizzonte
E mancan le parole
Sì lo so che non c’è luce
In una stanza quando manca il sole
Se non ci sei tu con me, con me
Su le finestre
Mostra a tutti il mio cuore
Che hai acceso
Chiudi dentro me
La luce che
Hai incontrato per strada
Time to say goodbye
Paesi che non ho mai
Veduto e vissuto con te
Adesso si li vivrò
Con te partirò
Su navi per mari
Che, io lo so
No, no, non esistono più
It’s time to say goodbye

I was at work when I discovered this song. My husband was in the hospital with leukemia and he was losing the battle. I cried like a baby. 22 years later I still cry. I still talk to my husband a lot because I believe he can hear. Our bodies die but our spirit lives on.
