Everything'll Be Alright
Joshua Radin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Way down New York town
Thinking about the way
She loved me

There's a hole in my pocket
That's about her size
But I think everything is gonna be alright
Yes, I hope everything is gonna be alright

A smilin' face
Is tradin' away
The gifts I found at the bar

Well I wish my car
Could drive to her tonight
Then I'd know everything is gonna be alright
Yes, then I'd know it'll be alright

The rain in New Orleans
Forgot to end
But the mouths of the people are dry
Then we watch and wait

And do nothing but sigh
And hope everything is gonna turn out right
But I don't know if it'll be alright

But I look at you
Warm in your dream
While your mobile dances above

And I think to myself
It's a beautiful night

And I know everything is gonna be alright
Yes, now I know it'll be alright

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Joshua Radin's "Everything'll Be Alright" convey the sense of loss and uncertainty. The singer is in New York town, thinking about the way his lover used to love him. He feels a hole in his pocket which reminds him of her small size. In the first verse, he expresses the hope that everything will be alright, evading his fears, and expressing optimism. In the second verse, he shares how he has found solace in the people he has met at the bar, yet still wishes to go to his lover's house to feel alright.

In the third verse, the song shifts to New Orleans, which has been hit by rain but the people are still waiting for hope. This verse seems to suggest that the singer finds himself in such a situation- waiting for hope in difficult circumstances. The final verse sees him looking at his sleeping partner and noticing the beauty of the night. It brings to light the fact that despite everything, there are still things to be grateful for and optimistic about.

Overall, the song captures the essence of the human experience, which is replete with moments of joy, pain, loss, and love. The singer is struggling to come to terms with uncertainty, loss, and hope, and ultimately finds solace in the present moment.

Oh, Josh Radin … how much I love you. <3 This song reminds me of a person I used to love a lot, and though I would have done almost everything for her, it didn't work out. I was heartbroken, sometimes still am, but this song made me realize that this perfectly okay. It's human, people have been at that point before and survived it. Everything'll be alright, and world's still beautiful and always will be. Damn, this song sure means lot to me, haha.
