Let's Talk About Feelings
Joywave Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I, I am drowning in love with you
I, I hope, hope that it's good for you

I, I am learning to live again
I, I'm done with the fast-paced, flower crowned women

I, I am falling in love with you
and I, I hope that it's good for you

I, I've been, I've been in every state
But content is foreign soil (content is foreign soil)
It's sand I'd love to cultivate

I'm just afraid that you'll change me
Won't run away or I'll have to take it slow
Don't want to fall silent for long
Won't run the away I spook out easy though

I'm just afraid that you'll change me
Won't run away or I'll have to take it slow
Don't want to fall silent for long
Won't run the away, I spook out easy though

I'm just afraid that you'll change me
Won't run away or I'll have to take it slow
Don't want to fall silent for long
Won't run the away I spook out easy though

I'm just afraid that you'll change me
Won't run away or I'll have to take it slow

Don't want to fall silent for long
Won't run the away I spook out easy though

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Joywave's song "Let's Talk About Feelings" convey a mixture of vulnerability, hope, and fear regarding a romantic relationship. The opening lines, "I am drowning in love with you, I hope that it's good for you," suggest that the singer is deeply infatuated and hopes that their love is reciprocated.

The following lines express a desire for personal growth and a break from past experiences. The singer declares that they are "learning to live again" and are done with superficial relationships ("fast-paced, flower crowned women"). They long for contentment, symbolized by "foreign soil" that they wish to cultivate. Instead of constantly searching for something new, the singer craves stability and a genuine connection.

Despite their yearning for a meaningful relationship, the singer also expresses fear. They worry that their partner might change them, potentially altering their sense of self. This fear may stem from past experiences of being hurt or losing one's individuality. The repeated refrain, "Won't run away or I'll have to take it slow," reflects a commitment to facing these fears and taking the necessary time to develop a lasting connection.

Overall, "Let's Talk About Feelings" explores the complexities of love and the vulnerability that comes with opening oneself up to another person. It touches on the desire for genuine connections, personal growth, and the fear of losing oneself in the process.

In my mind, this is one of Joywave's most underrated songs. I love it because it's such a stark departure from their usual style. I especially like how the raw emotion and feeling is so prominent. Not to mention the beautiful jazz beat, bass, and piano. Just an all-around gem.

i love how this sounds like they're performing in some sort of high end restaurant with the faint talking in the background. so real so beautiful. saw them live in michigan a little less than a week ago. so incredible

My favorite band and my favorite to see live! Such great energy!

PandaAbomination

The instrumentals Joywave puts at the end of their songs, such as this one and "Going to a Place", are some of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. To me, it says "uneasy acceptance", as ridiculous of a phrase as that is.

SurfeitofSkunks

This is legit one of the best songs on the new EP, and i dont think any of the songs are short from incredible

Inno

Pretty sure "Content" was an LP, but ok.

Jesus this is so freakin good. The vibe on this album just resonates with my soul, the act of trying to be happy when surrounded by pain, trying to let it go knowing you could be hurt again.
Got to see you guys at vinyl renaissance in kc and am so happy I did.

Hannah Gultom

Favorite track. Can't understand why this has so many dislikes.

KG 1

It's not as good or catchy as a lot of their other songs and doesn't have the energy a lot of them have.

My Chemical Romance Will Pierce The Veil

@KG 1 just because a song isn’t catchy does not make it a bad song. And I’d argue this song is catchy, with the piano tune they bring in and the chorus. It’s a great song over all and people need to start learning that chill songs are great too. It doesn’t all need to be upbeat and fast paced to be a “good” song
