Take Me In Your Army
Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somewhere to be, something to do
But you don't want it anymore
I was not ready for the podium yet
Just the stage

In all my dreams, I'm waiting for ya
And nothing has ever changed, except I can't touch you
The best part is when I feel you
You're just watchin' me
Me

Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army

This isn't for everybody
This is for nobody
It took a thousand years to build
It took me a day to destroy
The customer is obviously
Oblivious and wrong

Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army

Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army

Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army
Take me in your army

Take me in your army
Take me in your army

Take me in your army
Take me in your army

Overall Meaning

"Take Me In Your Army" is a song that highlights the feeling of purposelessness and the longing for connection. It starts with the singer feeling like they have somewhere to be and something to do but not having the desire to go through with it anymore. It then delves into a dreamlike state where they are waiting for someone they can't touch but still feel a connection with. The best part of their life is when they feel this presence, even if it's just watching them.

The chorus "take me in your army" suggests that the singer wants to belong somewhere and be part of something bigger than themselves. They want to be part of someone's mission and be useful. They feel like this may not be for everybody, but it's for nobody - no one understands this desire for belonging that they have. The song progressively becomes chaotic towards the end, reflecting the singer's inner chaos as they feel lost and out of place.

Overall, the song speaks to the human need for belonging and purpose. It's a call for someone to take the singer in and make them feel like they have a place in the world.

Yeah , no. It's clearly written for Nucleaur Fallout and Neo Conservative Religous Zealots. its just like the Clashs earlier work with Radio Clash.
This isn't for everybody ( not what the living masses want to hear)
This is for nobody ( its a message to the lifeless w/o a body)
It took a thousand years to build ( it took much work to build a civilization)
It took me a day to destroy ( in one day nucleaur destruction destroyed it all)
The customer is obviously
Oblivious and wrong

He also alludes to it at the ending of HUMAN SADNESS , in the end when nuclearur destructions kicks off and he puts his sunglasses on and there is a red.

In all my dreams, I'm waiting for ya
And nothing has ever changed, except I can't touch you
The best part is when I feel you
You're just watchin' me
Me
Take me in your army

*Hes making reference to religious fanatics who spend life awaiting for REVELATIONS to happen and for jesus to return; like the necons.

I don't think Julian has made or been involved with the making of a bad song in his entire life. What a musical genius!

I'm so in love with this album. I just lay here as the music weaves backwards and forwards through my mind. I feel... changed. Disrupted somehow, yet more in focus... I can't quite put it into words...

This album's amazing. It sounds distorted b'c of the apocalyptic waste land theme. A robotic voice recruiting what's left in the aftermath when M.A.D. was ignored. The sounds/effects/voices are perfect for the slow machinations of a world grinding slowly to a halt. It even sounds like it.
