as someone who works princess birthday parties as my job...this makes me sad. kids just want to play with friends, eat cake, and meet a princess. clearly this girl wanted a dragon which she didn’t even get...they don’t want all of this. they won’t even remember this. her parents could’ve afforded a fully mobile animatronic dragon at this cost. that’s insane

@BEZ LLAMA Megan Markle is one of only a few British Royal "Princesses" (not actually a Princess, never was) who would probably turn up for the "right" fee. She was rightly striped of the "Her/ His Royal Highness" HRH title when Harry and Megan decided they didn't want to be working royals. But looking at what she has been paid by Netflix and Spotify she would cost you easily over the £20M mark. Princess Beatrice might do it for less maybe you get her in for £2M? Her sister on the other hands seems to have more respect for herself and the monarchy.

Sadly the new Princess of Wales, Princess Catherine of Wales is 1. a very senior Royal and will be Queen Consort when William takes the throne, 2. is not a money and lime light grabbing narcissist & 3. has far to much respect for King Charles III, her husband and herself to stoop so low. Princess Charlotte is to young. Sophie Wessex, again not a princess but is very similar to Kate in that she wouldn't disrespect her brother-in-law the King. Zara Tindall nee Phillips should be a Princess but Princess Anne wanted her children to grow up without the weight a British Royal Family title brings. Princess Anne herself, you just kinda know that she would not take money to attended a strangers party, she would most likely just turn up without warning.
I know there are more i.e. Zara & Peter Phillips children, more adult royals too but I went through all of them this post, which is already way to long would end up a short novel!

I remember I had a sea-themed princess birthday party (8yrs old I think) at a ballpit park sort of place which was the size of a grocery store, filled with ballpit mazes and slides. It wasn't even that expensive, and all I remember was a few moments in the actual maze, chasing my friends, and then I have some photos with facepaint and reusable outfits they loaned out to the birthday kids. It was nice. But yeah, no memories of the princess part at all xD. Maybe even the memories of playing in the maze were from another day we were there haha.

You nailed it. I was homeschooled. When we moved to a new town and I had recently been subjected to the concept of surprise parties for the first time, so I specifically told my mother all year before turning 9 "oh man, I'd really hate a SURPRISE PARTY... oh man, wouldn't that suck? Wouldn't a surprise party be A NIGHTMARE FOR A CHILD WITH CRIPPLING SOCIAL ANXIETY."

BOOM. Surprise party at the new church (which I hated.) I was a people pleaser so I remember stressing out so much pretending to be happy and trying to get away from the fluorescent lights and other kids (whom I all hated) I literally went outside and passed out on the playground... my only actually friend spirited me away so I could cry, and she gave me pop tarts, and everything was ok... that girl was a BAB.

My brothers tended to have joint birthday parties and we've done everything from renting bouncy castles while I face painted for free to paintball to lazertag. My parents spent a bit more than usual but it evened out since it was for two kids. I guarentee they enjoyed that more

That little girl might have some attitude, but all little kids do. She genuinely just wanted a dragon and some friends to have fun with and never got that. I don't think she even really liked princesses and all that stereotypical girly stuff. She didn't even get to choose what to wear on her own birthday. She looked so overwhelmed. Kids have trouble expressing complex emotions so I think the bird being the wrong colour was just the tipping point that no one was listening to what she wanted. I feel so bad.

The kid was probably overwhelmed. She didn't care about most of that party; it probably didn't feel like it was focused on her, with all those strangers and lavish stuff. The stress builds up and then when one of the few things she cared about was wrong, she felt so disappointed. Of course she isn't gonna "appreciate" the 30K party around her. Think about how many meltdowns kids have at Disney World. There's so much to see, it's overwhelming, it's tiring and hot to walk around, there's lots of waiting.. and then when they don't have time to get a picture with Elsa or whatever, they burst out crying. They aren't gonna have the perspective and proper emotional control to deal with it, they aren't gonna care or understand how much money the parents have used on their trip - the kid is gonna act like it's all ruined.

So even though she's certainly a little spoiled, as mommy's last little girl, her reaction would be understandable from any 6 year old. She was never overly demanding, she just wanted to be with her mother and do princess stuff and eat cake and be the center of attention for the day. They could've made her much happier with just properly spent 100 bucks, but the mom set the tone for the party from the get go, so the kid just went with it. She wasn't being a perfectionist or a diva when she cried about the wrongly colored bird.

I have been to some of the poorest places and the poorest people on earth share everything they have! I visited a place in Mexico that was a third world country conditions and they were the happiest people who share everything they have! One of our hosts actually killed their last chicken in order to prepare a meal for us!! I was in a place where they have no running water no bed cardboard as part of the house dirt floors no AC or heat just a fire to cook meals and if you had to take a dump you had to go 50 meters away and dig your own hole and go!! The reason why we had to go 50 meters away from the village was to prevent contamination of their wells and protect their water source from cholera and other illnesses!! I lived in these conditions for a week!! I am thankful for all of the conveniences I have like a toilet and shower a bed and an AC in the summer and heat in the winter but if I can remember one thing it’s how much fun I had with the kids!! They could make a toy out of anything!!

All that and the "big gift" is a toy electric car that they could have gotten at walmart for like $200 AND she didnt even seem interested in..so the mom failed completly at understanding her daughter or caring about what she wanted for her birthday. I remember one year I got a megablocks set with a cool toy dragon and a pirate ship, I bed that little girl would have LOVED a gift like that instead..but I guess dragons were too boyish for her to post pictures of and parad around.

I've been a couple times. There were a lo of birds begging for food because of the high volumes of people around. I watched a woman sitting on a dock sharing her turkey leg with a crane...Also the bathrooms smelled like death. You smelled them before you saw them. Also also every food place was 3x normal prices and very very low quality. I watched a family of 5 from England quietly choking down mediocre fish n chips they paid $20 a meal. I had a chicken tender salad. It was just straight lettuce and very dry chicken....

When I was 4, my mon threw me this pretty chill but awesome birthday party with maybe six of my friends, my two-years-older sister and a couple of her friends, and the adults. It was an awesome early 90s bday that we recorded with our 1988 video camera. My mom bought me this doll that was the same size as me and I threw a big pouting tantrum because the doll 'didn't do anything', as in it didn't go potty like my one doll, grow hair like that one barbie, or talk or walk or anything. I feel guilty to this day about how ungrateful I was, even though that was 30 years ago and I was just a kid. I cannot even begin to imagine being a kid who gets upset because something is the wrong colour at such an extravagant birthday, but then maybe if I was used to my mother throwing massive, expensive parties so she could dress like a princess, I would end up that entitled. But I don't think I would because I felt guilty about being upset about the doll an hour later and I still feel guilty 30 years and 2.5 months later!!

Personally, my theory is that the girl was more of the tomboy type. She wanted a dragon more than anything, didn't want to wear the dress/makeup when the guests were over, roughhoused with her cousins away from the main party, and belched on the adults who tried to subdue her. It's obvious that the mom was trying to live vicariously through the daughter, but i think this was a factor too.

I was very money aware and money interested from an early age. If my parents told me how much that cost and I calculated how many pogs or pokemon card packs I could get for the price of that party, I'd tell them no party, just cash.

My birthday parties (August) were the same. Put the sprinkler on, open the above ground pool grab the super soakers and water balloons, sheet cake, local Chicago pizza, generic ice cream, piniatta, bozo buckets competitions for little dollar store prizes or cash.

I had a fairytale birthday party when I turned 5. My dad made a cardboard castle, everyone dressed up in whatever they had, we made little crowns out of foam, and someone made me a princess cake. And that birthday was amazing, didn't cost much at all.

Like everyone else has already said, this is 100% for the mom and not the kid. The kid just wanted a dragon and a cake. You know, like a reasonable six-year-old. They could've bought an inflatable dragon, set it up in the yard, invited some of the kid's kindergarten friends over for cake and ice cream, and this girl probably would've had a blast.

The funny thing is, that kid isn’t going to remember all of those elaborate, expensive decorations. She isn’t going to remember the little details, she’ll remember the fun she had, and parties like this aren’t fun for a kid. I would imagine it just feels hollow and overwhelming when you’re in a room with people you don’t know, and you’re expected to appreciate all the money that’s spent on you, when you didn’t ask for that. When I was turning 6, I was obsessed with the grinch for some reason, so I spent the afternoon with my mom making green punch and cupcakes. We spent like $50 on some giant blow up balls that kids could crawl inside, and me and my few friends rolled around in them for hours and played games. All of that took place in my grandma’s small church, and it was fun as hell. That’s the kind of things kids remember, not ice castles or paid actors. Don’t worry about spending thousands on a kid’s party, just make sure they have a good time.

That's ridiculous to spend that much, especially for a child's party. At least save it for like a graduation party or something. My husband and our twins have the same birthday and I throw their parties together, the twins in the afternoon and it kinda flows into his later in the evening. I've never ever even thought of spending so much money for a couple hours event.

I'm absolutely 100% sure she would've been JUST as happy with the water balloons, sprinkler, cake and maybe treasure hunt? Because kids have no concept of luxury or money, at least not to that extent. Of course she's upset with some things, she would have been no matter how expensive the party because it's all pretty much the same at that age I think.
