His family witnessed the heart-wrenching sight of their son's pain and suffering

Their hearts fell to their stomachs when they found him on the floor
Their hearts sank with grief and shock when they discovered him lifeless on the floor

She didn't think she'd ever be relieved of the weight
She couldn't imagine ever finding relief from the heavy burden of grief

But now she sees

Contemplated death more times than you would think
I have thought about suicide more often than most people imagine

I'm thankful every day I was afraid of the knife
I am grateful that my fear prevented me from taking my own life with a knife

I was left alone with me, it pushed me to the brink
Being alone with my thoughts almost drove me to the edge

Until somebody showed me just how special is a life
But someone helped me realize the value and uniqueness of each life

I couldn't see
I couldn't perceive

What really mattered then
I couldn't grasp what truly mattered at that time

The importance of having a friend

If you'd have asked me in those moments if I could escape that hell
If you had asked me during those dark times if I believed I could overcome my pain
