Never Again
Justin Jones & The Driving Rain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would have given up my life for you
Guess it′s true what they say about love
It's blind
Girl, you lied straight to my face
Looking in my eyes
And I believed you ′cause I loved you more than life
And all you had to do
Was apologize

You didn't say you're sorry
I don′t understand
You don′t care that you hurt me
And now I'm half the man
That I used to be when it was you and me
You didn′t love me enough
My heart may never mend
And you'll never get to love me, again

No, no, no, no, no, no

Sadness has me at the end of the line
Helpless watched you break this heart of mine
And loneliness only wants you back here with me
Common sense knows that you′re not good enough for me
And all you had to do
Was apologize, and mean it

But you didn't say you′re sorry
I don't understand
You don't care that you hurt me
And now I′m half the man
That I used to be when it was you and me
You didn′t love me enough
My heart may never mend
And you'll never get to love me

I wish like hell I could go back in time
Maybe then I could see how
Forgiveness says that I should give you one more try
But it′s too late, it's over now

You didn′t say you're sorry
I don′t understand
You don't care that you hurt me
And now I'm half the man
That I used to be when it was you and me
You didn′t love me enough
My heart may never mend
And you′ll never get to love me
Again

Again, yeah, yeah

Again, again, again, yeah, yeah, yeah
Never get to love me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Never Again" by Justin Jones & The Driving Rain, seems to be referencing a relationship that has gone through a painful and bitter ending. The singer of the song was deeply in love with his partner to the extent that he would have given up his life for her, but his trust was betrayed. The lines "Guess it's true what they say about love, It's blind" shows that he was oblivious to her deceit while professing his love for her. However, when he discovered that she had lied straight to his face and didn't apologize, it left him heartbroken and damaged. This pain and hurt manifest in the line "Helpless watched you break this heart of mine".

The song presents a man who is coming to terms with the fact that the relationship is over and that he has been deeply hurt. Despite the singer's desire to forgive and move on, he ultimately succumbs to the realization that the other party didn't love him enough to say sorry and that it's too late to fix things. The decision to move on is evident in lines "But it’s too late, it's over now". The song's title "Never Again" suggests that the singer will never let himself be hurt again in this way by the same person.

Line by Line Meaning

Would have given up my life for you
I loved you so much that I was willing to do anything for you, even sacrifice my own life.

Guess it's true what they say about love / It's blind
People say that love can blind us to the truth, and now I see that it's true.

Girl, you lied straight to my face / Looking in my eyes / And I believed you 'cause I loved you more than life
You deceived me with your false words and actions, and I fell for it because I loved you with all my heart.

And all you had to do / Was apologize
It would have been so easy for you to make things right, all you needed to do was say sorry.

You didn't say you're sorry / I don't understand / You don't care that you hurt me / And now I'm half the man / That I used to be when it was you and me / You didn't love me enough / My heart may never mend / And you'll never get to love me, again
You never apologized for your wrongs, and I don't understand why. You don't seem to care that you hurt me deeply, and now I feel incomplete without you. I realize that you never truly loved me enough to treat me right, and that pain may never go away. I cannot let you love me again.

Sadness has me at the end of the line / Helpless watched you break this heart of mine / And loneliness only wants you back here with me / Common sense knows that you're not good enough for me / And all you had to do / Was apologize, and mean it
I am overwhelmed with sadness and despair now that you've left me alone with a shattered heart. Despite feeling lonely, I know that I can't go back to you because you're not good enough for me - it's just common sense. Yet, if you had genuinely apologized, maybe things could have been different.

I wish like hell I could go back in time / Maybe then I could see how / Forgiveness says that I should give you one more try / But it's too late, it's over now
I desperately wish I could turn back the clock, maybe then I would have seen the signs of your betrayal. Even though I know forgiveness means I should try to give you another chance, it's too late now and our relationship is beyond repair.

Again, yeah, yeah / Again, again, again, yeah, yeah, yeah / Never get to love me
There is no chance of us being together again, no matter how many times you try. You will never get the opportunity to love me again.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG;
For more then one reason;
# 1. I'm a recovering addict whom has fought and fought ta put it down and It's a REAL struggle...
I've only been sober this time since 8-4-2019 but this I've felt something way different. NOTHING like I have in the past.

My other ADDICTION;
Well it's so hard ta put him down and leave him alone too..
We've always been each others go to when something tragic happens in our life. And I don't have anyone else in my life that I can share my every thought with;TRUST WITH MY LIFE;BE gr8 with my 2 AMAZING LIL MEN who are 16 yrs;and 13 yrs old..
But the living a double life on his part is not even remotely alright and we both feel the same way..
However his family has went and taken his grandbabies outta his life because he's not with their mom.
So I told him that I am NOT even remotely worth his grandbabies.
So on top of my struggle with my drug addiction; I'm heartbroken everyday. He really is a AMAZING MAN.
He's my CAPTAIN AMERICA FOR LIFE!.!.!

@DekenIsomIMNOT

Saw your name light up my phone tonight
Know I shouldn't answer, but I just gotta
know why

Everything in me is tellin' me don't

But this house is empty and I'm tired of
being alone

You make my heart race like cocaine
Mellow me out like Mary-Jane

Long slow breathe into my lungs

Marlbro cigarette on my tongue

A good strong glass of whiskey bringin' my inhibition down

You're my damn addiction, everytime you
come around

Second you walked in you got me high
Was it the whiskey, or the sparkle in your
eyes
Know I shouldn't but I just can't help myself

Cause when you leave me baby, I'll be in a
livin' hell

You make my heart race like cocaine
Mellow me out like Mary-Jane

Long slow breathe into my lungs

Marlbro cigarette on my tounge

A good strong glass of whiskey bringin' my inhibition down

You're my damn addiction, everytime you come around

Well, maybe one day I'll give you up and just quit
But tonight ain't that night, I'm gonna
keep that fire lit
You make my heart race like cocaine
Mellow me out like Mary-Jane
Long slow breathe into my lungs
Marlbro cigarette on my tounge
A good strong glass of whiskey bringin' my inhibition down
You're my damn addiction, everytime you
come around
You're my damn addiction, and I just can't
put you down
No I just can't put you down
