In 2011, he received the Americana Music Award in the Song of the Year category for his "Harlem River Blues," from the album of the same name.
His fourth release "Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now", released in 2012 was met with critical acclaim, it was listed at #37 on Rolling Stone's list of the top 50 albums of 2012, saying "The son of country-rock renegade Steve Earle has grown into a songwriter to rival his dad."

Someday I'll Be Forgiven for This

Is too much to bear and she holds me close
And she helps me forget
You go steppin' out as she comes steppin' in
Someday I'll be forgiven for this
Cause you just ain't got the time that you used to
Well you say you love me and deep inside hell I know you do
I'm already convinced that someday I'll be forgiven for this
Yeah, and if I know you
You won't have nothing to say
You'll just clear the tears from your eyes
Long enough to watch me walk away
You won't curse or scream, no nothing that obscene
You'll just tell yourself you never loved me anyway
So tonight when you leave
Put the light out on the porch
Take anything that you want to keep and leave your key in the door
And I don't want to hear you crying no tears that show regret
Cause someday you'll be forgiven for this
Oh, yeah, someday you'll be forgiven for this.
The lyrics of Justin Townes Earle's song "Someday I'll be forgiven for this" tell the story of a man who is in a tumultuous relationship with a woman. The man is struggling with his own loneliness and, as a result, turns to this other woman for comfort. The woman he is in a relationship with is aware of the infidelity and, although she loves him, is unable to handle the situation. The man, however, seems to have convinced himself that he will eventually be forgiven for his actions. In the end, he encourages the woman to leave and tells her that she will someday be forgiven for the pain she has caused him.
The song is a heartbreaking tale of love, infidelity, and forgiveness. It speaks to the depths of human emotion and the ways in which we all struggle with our own demons. The lyrics are particularly powerful because they reflect the complexity of relationships and the difficult choices we often face when trying to navigate them.
