Void of any obvious imperfection, unmarred by worm holes or stunted by lack of sunlight, the apple is infused with such beauty and vitality that one cannot suppress the urge to taste.
This apple is Kat Jones -- taste, you must.
Kat is a singer/songwriter from Fresno, California. A striking, soulful voice coupled with a talent for writing songs with music and lyrics which an aesthetic maturity years far beyond her own.
“I’d wanted to be a musician for as long as I can remember but never thought it was possible,” remarks Kat, when asked about her start as a musician. “I’d decided my best hope would be to become something like a manager or producer.”
In 1996, while interning at Wolf Sound Audio Engineering in Fresno, Kat began to explore and develop her personal musical gifts. She sat in on every recording session, took vocal and guitar lessons, and by the end of the year, she had performed in front of her first audience of 500. Now, 10 years, 5 nationwide tours, 2 EPs, countless live releases and demos later -- Kat released her first full length album, “La Rosa, La Calavera” and is now preparing to record her second (Due 2008).
This first album, Spanish for “the rose, the skull”, focuses on the concepts of life and death. It showcases Kat’s intricate blend of indie rock, folk, and americana with a touch of alt. country appeal. Distinct and creative instrumentation exists both to serve as an artistic expression, and to offset and highlight her powerful and captivating vocals. The end result is nine haunting tracks that will stir your soul.
“I want the album to make people think. I hope they relate to it and that it ends up being more than just another record. I hope it becomes a part of their lives.”
Give in to temptation, there is no sin in partaking of this apple. Kat Jones’ first album is available on Velvet Blue Music.

Kat Jones Lyrics
Hey
You had my head
Tied up in knots
I knew I was someone
But somehow I forgot
Did you cut off all of my branches
Did you burn down all of my vines
I laid down in the soil in the cool of the night
I laid down in the dew and waited for light
The sun burned up my intention
Illuminated fright
I stretched out my branches
My friends drank all my wine
We had us a party
But you had a terrible time
You had my head
Tied up in knots
I knew I was someone
But somehow I forgot
Did you cut off all of my branches
Did you burn down all of my vines
I laid down in the soil in the cool of the night
The sun burned up my intention
Illuminated fright
I stretched out my branches
My friends drank all my wine
We had us a party
But you had a terrible time
