A member of one of the most famous musical families in America, Taylor and her four brothers, Alex Taylor, Livingston Taylor, Hugh Taylor and James Taylor, have all enjoyed some measure of success as performing and recording artists, starting in the late 1960s. Kate, Livingston and James are still active musicians; Hugh owns an inn on Martha's Vineyard; Alex is deceased.
Taylor formed her first band at age 15 and had her first record deal with Atlantic Records four years later—her debut album Sister Kate was released in 1971. Her second album, the 1978 self-titled Kate Taylor, was produced by her brother James and Lew Hahn. It was fairly well received, and produced another charting hit, "It's in His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)", done as a duet with James. It peaked at 49 on the Billboard charts.
The following year Taylor released It's in There, produced by Barry Beckett, which failed to reach its public. After this release Taylor took a break from the music industry for the next two decades to raise her daughters Elizabeth and Aretha. She continued to perform and contribute to various projects, including an appearance on the Mark Heard tribute album Orphans of God and as a back-up singer for various other artists. She released another album in 2003, Beautiful Road, a particularly personal album, dedicated to her manager and husband, Charlie Witham, who fell ill while she was recording the album and died shortly before its release.
In 2003, Taylor resumed her touring career and now plays regularly in New York City, New England and the South.
In 2005, Taylor released her first live album, Kate Taylor Live at The Cutting Room, a recording of a live concert made the previous year.

Ain't Too Proud to Beg
Kate Taylor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I refuse to let you go,
If I have to beg, plead for your sympathy,
I don't mind 'cause you mean that much to me.
Ain't too proud to beg and you know it,
Please don't leave me girl,
Don't you go,
Please don't leave me, girl,
Don't you go.
Now I've heard a cryin' man
Is half a man with no sense of pride,
But if I have to cry to keep you,
I don't mind weepin' if it'll keep you by my side.
Ain't too proud to beg and you know it,
Please don't leave me girl,
Don't you go,
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby,
Please don't leave me, girl,
Don't you go.
If I have to sleep on your doorstep all night and day
Just to keep you from walking away,
Let your friends laugh, even this I can stand,
'cause I wanna keep you any way I can.
Ain't too proud to beg and you know it,
Please don't leave me girl,
Don't you go,
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby,
Please don't leave me, girl,
Don't you go.
Now I've got a love so deep in the pit of my heart,
And each day it grows more and more,
I'm not ashamed to call and plead to you, baby,
If pleading keeps you from walking out that door.
Ain't too proud to beg and you know it,
Please don't leave me girl,
Don't you go,
Ain't too proud to plead, baby, baby,
Please don't leave me, girl,
Don't you go.
In Kate Taylor's song "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," the lyrics express a deep emotional plea from the singer to their lover. The singer acknowledges that the other person wants to leave, but they are not willing to let go easily. They are prepared to beg and plead for the other person's sympathy because their lover means so much to them. This reveals the vulnerability and desperation of the singer's feelings, highlighting the depth of their emotional connection.
The repeated lines "Ain't too proud to beg and you know it, Please don't leave me girl, Don't you go" emphasize the singer's humility and willingness to do whatever it takes to make their partner stay. The use of "baby" in the lyrics adds a sense of intimacy and affection, underscoring the intensity of the singer's emotions and their desire to hold onto the relationship.
The lyrics also touch upon the idea of traditional masculinity and pride, suggesting that a crying man is often viewed as lacking pride. However, the singer is willing to set aside these societal expectations and show vulnerability by crying if it means keeping their lover by their side. This challenges gender stereotypes and celebrates the strength found in being true to one's feelings, even if it means appearing vulnerable.
The final verse of the song paints a vivid picture of the singer's dedication and willingness to go to great lengths to prevent their lover from leaving. The image of sleeping on the doorstep day and night, enduring laughter from friends, reflects the singer's unwavering commitment and determination to hold onto the relationship. The repeated refrain and heartfelt expressions of love illustrate the depth of the singer's attachment and their sincere plea for their partner to stay, showcasing the raw emotion and sincerity embedded in the lyrics of the song.
