Anybody's Heart
Katharine McPhee Lyrics

If you smile just right, no one knows you might have
A heart full of pain and a soul that can't reign
And a stomach full of butterflies
All that I wanted was just to feel safe
Safe in your arms
Say you didn't mean to
Say I wouldn't understand
But it's time you say something
God knows it's the one thing I need
And the heart you broke
Know it wasn't just anybody's heart
So I bit my nails and I held my breath
And I said I'm fine
Yeah, I did my best
But you can't tell me you never knew the truth
Of all the fear I felt
How I worried about you
And all that I wanted was just to feel safe
Safe in your arms
[Chorus]
I was yours, I was yours
And the heart that you broke
Was devoted and pure
And it wasn't just anybody's heart
In "Anybody's Heart," Katharine McPhee sings about the difficulty of facing the world when you are feeling scared and vulnerable. She describes the pain and anxiety she feels as she tries to present a certain image to others, even though she is hurting inside. The lyrics suggest that someone has hurt her deeply, and she is struggling to find safety and security. She longs for the person who broke her heart to acknowledge what they have done, and offer her the reassurance and comfort she needs.
The chorus of the song expresses the heartbreak and betrayal that McPhee is feeling. She begs the person who hurt her to stop hiding the truth, and be honest with her. She is in desperate need of answers, and wants to know why they treated her the way they did. McPhee suggests that the heart that has been broken is not just anybody's heart. She is stating that her heart is special, and that the person who hurt her should have treated it with more care.
Overall, "Anybody's Heart" is a powerful and emotional song about the pain of heartbreak and the desperate need for comfort and understanding.
