Keb' Mo' is one of the foremost contemporary blues artists. With an endearing sense of faith in humanity evident on most of his tracks and a very interestingly textured voice, this man has successfully merged traditional Delta blues and modern acoustic singer-songwritership. While it's a stretch to call him a traditionalist, Keb' Mo' plays a mean guitar, and the meticulously played guitar on each one of his songs is awe-inspiring.
After spending his early career backing blues artists up, he released his debut album in 1994. He also appeared in Scorsese's film about the blues. As the only man to my knowlege that has incorporated the word "internet" into a blues song, it is clear that Keb' Mo' is unique and has, in an unprecedented manner, carved out his own genre that never fails to make the listener smile.
Rainmaker

It's always calm just before the storm, you know
Along she came, with a brand new season
Since we've been together
There's been a change in the weather
She's a rainmaker
She makes the rain fall from my eyes
She makes a grown man wanna cry
Well, I never thought
That a tear could fall
From the eyes of a man
Who never even cried at all
Now, I've been happy
I've been blue
For the change in the season
She's a rainmaker
She makes the rain fall from my eyes
She's a rainmaker
She makes a grown man wanna cry
The lightning flashes, the thunder roars
There's no stoppin' the wind
The tide is washing
Her a path to my door
I've never ever loved like this before
Storm is over, the sun is bright
There's a rainbow in my life
Clouds are gone, the sky is clear
And since we've been together
There's been a change in the weather
She's a rainmaker
She makes the rain fall from my eyes
She's a rainmaker
She makes a grown man wanna cry
She's a rainmaker
She makes the rain fall from my eyes
She's a rainmaker
She makes a grown man wanna cry
The song "Rainmaker" by Keb' Mo' is a soulful ballad about the transformative power of love. It describes the singer's experience of meeting someone special who brings a fresh start to his life. The lyrics begin by describing a sense of peace and stillness before a storm, which is a metaphor for the singer's life before meeting his love interest. However, everything changes when she enters his life - she is a "rainmaker" who transforms his emotional landscape by making him feel things he never thought he could. The chorus repeats the title phrase ("She's a rainmaker") – suggesting that the transformation she brings is ongoing and life-giving. The singer reveals that he has been happy and sad before, but never like this – with his new love, he feels a level of depth and intensity of emotion that he has never experienced with anyone else.
The song uses a variety of meteorological references to create a poetic atmosphere that underscores the power of love. The line "The lightning flashes, the thunder roars / There's no stoppin' the wind / The tide is washing / Her a path to my door" creates a picture of a wild and untamed force of nature, while the final verse depicts the singer's transformation in imagery evocative of a beautiful day after a storm: "Storm is over, the sun is bright / There's a rainbow in my life / Clouds are gone, the sky is clear." Overall, "Rainmaker" is a heartfelt song full of soulful emotion and vivid lyrics, representing Keb' Mo's profound ability to create music that resonates with a deep sense of human experience.
