-----
Keb' Mo' is one of the foremost contemporary blues artists. With an endearing sense of faith in humanity evident on most of his tracks and a very interestingly textured voice, this man has successfully merged traditional Delta blues and modern acoustic singer-songwritership. While it's a stretch to call him a traditionalist, Keb' Mo' plays a mean guitar, and the meticulously played guitar on each one of his songs is awe-inspiring.
After spending his early career backing blues artists up, he released his debut album in 1994. He also appeared in Scorsese's film about the blues. As the only man to my knowlege that has incorporated the word "internet" into a blues song, it is clear that Keb' Mo' is unique and has, in an unprecedented manner, carved out his own genre that never fails to make the listener smile.
Standin' At The Station
Keb' Mo' Lyrics

Teardrops in my eyes
Standin' at the station
Wonderin' why
You love him more than you love me
You wanna marry him
Make a family
That's why I'm standin' at the station
Well I'm standin' at the station
Sad as a man can be
And you're gazing through the window
Waving good-bye to me
Well I know you got to do what you got to do
But you're leaving me
And I'm loving you
That's why I'm standin' at the station
Teardrops in my eyes
Yes I'm standin' at the station
Teardrops in my eyes
Come back home baby, I need ya
Stop that train, back it on up
In Keb' Mo''s song Standin' At The Station, the singer is expressing his deeply felt emotions of pain and heartbreak at a train station where he stands, overwhelmed with tears in his eyes, as he watches his lover leave him for another man. The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness, as he resigns to his fate, acknowledging that his lover has chosen someone else over him. Despite his deep love for her, he is left feeling rejected and abandoned. However, he still wishes for her to come back to him, as expressed by the line, "Come back home baby, I need ya. Stop that train, back it on up."
The song's lyrics and melody capture the essence of the blues genre. The rawness and authenticity of the emotion conveyed in the song are typical of traditional Delta blues. The use of repetition in the chorus, "Standin' at the station, teardrops in my eyes," underscores the depth of the singer's despair. The song also depicts the African-American experience of separation and loss, which is a common theme in blues music.
