“This song is all about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and moving on.” Says Kelsey Merritt, front-woman of Kelsey and The Chaos,”I want everyone who hears it to be uplifted and motivated to come out of life’s trials stronger than ever.”
Kelsey and the Chaos have seen their fair share of adversity, but in turn, a much greater share of success. “Life Goes On” is the first taste of new music, not to mention a new musical direction since the band’s release of “Shut Up and Deal” in 2009 through Tragic Hero Records.
“We started out playing heavier rock music, which you can clearly hear in our first single, ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger’,” says Kelsey. “It wasn’t until myself and the band began writing after the release of ‘Shut Up and Deal’ did I realize how heavily influenced we were by the fun, no holds barred pop music of so many generations.”
“Life Goes On” was released on December 15th 2009, and is currently being spun over 150 times a week on numerous Top 40 Stations across the United States.
Since their formation in 2008 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA the band has built up quite a resume and an active fan base as proof of their hard work. They have toured supporting Forever the Sickest Kids (2x), The White Tie Affair, The Rocket Summer, Just Surrender, Sing It Loud and more, as well as spending 2008 and 2009 on the Vans Warped Tour.
“I went from being in class every day, to touring the country. The guys and I have grown up listening to these bands and now we were sharing the stage with them. There is nothing cooler than that.” says Kelsey of their recent touring experience.
Further proving their commercial viability, the band was named one of the “100 Bands You NEED To Know in 2009” by Alternative Press Magazine. Their song “Where We Are” was featured on the season finale of “The Real World: Brooklyn” as well as spots on “Keeping up with the Kardashians”. The band also performed at a highly publicized MTV2 event in New York City in early 2009 hosted by Chris Carraba (Dashboard Confessional) and received rave reviews from him for their performance. MTV2 also ran commercial spots for the band for a week following the battle, which exposed the band to an even broader audience. 2010 is a new year for Kelsey and the Chaos, and they look to continue to add to their resume.
“We are so excited for the rest of 2010,” says Kelsey. “I cannot wait to show the world what this project has to offer.”
Kelsey and the Chaos will be playing the Kevin Says Stage on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour-July 6th-31st

Rolled through the city
Hoodie low on my eyes
Like I'm looking for the plug
Trying to cop me a dub
Now a days rolling with the homies real ones who show up
Doing the dash onto bigger things
DMs blowing up I hear the money ring
They gone talk about me bringing up the team
Real life let the cards unfold
Always play my hand never settle and fold
Take my chances anywhere that I go
Start from the bottom sift out the gold
Go and build it up feeling so high
Catching new flights on another ride
Doors open up on the otherside
Just a glimpse of how I hustle makin mine bitch
So we hooked up with black sheep at the summit
He told me to shoot for the stars
You know we carry the heavy metal
But ain't none of us playing guitars
Sober and going on three years
But I still feel at home in these bars
I hopped off the plane in Salt Lake City
but I feel like I landed on Mars
Now, I'm outta my mind and we're outta this world
And we're taking what's ours (gimme that shit)
And, now, ya'll done ran outta time you're coming unfurled
So now we're taking charge (controlled chaos)
I used to look in the mirror and I would see was the pain and the flaws and the scars (sick)
Now when you picture Controlled Chaos
you see checkered flags champagne and cigars
I was sick and tired
Of being sick and tired
Always missing work
It almost got me fired
But I got my shit together
And had my brain rewired
Tryna get everything that I desire
I'm the first to show up
And the last to leave
You the first to pour up
And get your ass beat
If you take it too far
Then I'll blast the heat
Chalk lined his fuckin body
That's my masterpiece (Ambrose)
It ain't what it could be
It is what is should be
Walking through the shadows
Black Tims and a hoodie (uhh)
Stay strapped up like I'm ready for war (damn)
I don't even fuckin knock
I just bust through the door (cott)
The early bird gets the worm
So I'm ready to soar (get em)
Our shit so damn potent
Got 'em begging for more
Don't be tryna catch this wave
You do better on shore (whoooo)
I'm down to throw these fucking hands
So we can settle the score bitch!
The lyrics to Kelsey and the Chaos's song "Where We Are" depict a journey of self-discovery and perseverance. The persona describes a past where they were unknown and overlooked, rolling through the city with their hoodie low, searching for opportunities. However, things have changed for the better as they now roll with true friends who support them. They are on a path to achieve bigger things, with their DMs blowing up and the sound of money ringing in their ears. The persona emphasizes the importance of hard work and not underestimating oneself. They know that people will talk, but they remain focused on their own growth and success. Instead of settling and folding, they always play their hand, taking chances wherever they go. The doors of opportunity open for them, giving them just a glimpse of the hustle they employ to make it their own.
