The truth
Kris Allen feat. Pat Monahan Lyrics

Wishing I could disappear, hey
Let you fall asleep
And vanish out into thin air, hey
It's the elephant in the room
And we pretend that we don't see it.
It's the avalanche that looms above our heads.
Tryin' to be perfect
Tryin' not to let you down, yeah
Honesty is honestly the hardest thing for me right now, yeah
While the floors underneath our feet are crumbling
The walls we built together tumblin'
I still stand here holdin' up the roof
'Cause it's easier than telling the truth.
I still keep your photographs
I remember how we used to laugh
I can keep on losin' sleep
If you're okay with being torn in half.
It's the elephant in the room
And we pretend that we don't see it.
It's an avalanche that looms above our heads
But we don't believe it.
Tryin' to be perfect,
Tryin' not to let you down, yeah
Honesty is honestly the hardest thing for me right now, yeah
While the floors underneath our feet are crumblin'
The walls we built together tumblin'
I still stand here holdin' up the roof
'Cause it's easier than telling the truth.
Stop ignoring that our hearts are mourning
And let the rain come in.
Stop pretending that it's not ending
And let the end begin.
Oh yeah
Tryin' to be perfect,
Tryin' not to let you down, yeah
Honesty is honestly the hardest thing for me right now, yeah
While the floors underneath our feet are crumblin'
The walls we built together tumblin'
I still stand here holdin' up the roof
'Cause it's easier than telling the truth.
It's easier than telling the truth
Kris Allen's song "The Truth" is about a relationship that is falling apart and the struggle to be honest. The singer is lying next to their partner, wishing they could disappear and avoid having to confront the truth. They both know that their relationship is in trouble, but they pretend that everything is okay and ignore the "elephant in the room" and "avalanche that looms above our heads." The singer admits that honesty is the hardest thing for them right now, as they try to be perfect and not let their partner down. However, while the floors underneath their feet are crumbling and the walls they built together are tumbling, the singer still stands and holds up the roof, because it's easier than telling the truth.
The chorus repeats the struggle to be perfect and not let each other down, while acknowledging that honesty is hard. The verses describe the singer's fear of being honest and letting their partner down. They still keep photographs and remember how they used to laugh together, but they are losing sleep knowing that they might have to end the relationship. The bridge encourages the partner to stop pretending that everything is okay and let the truth come out, even if it means the end of the relationship.
Overall, "The Truth" is a heartfelt and introspective look at the difficulty of being honest in a failing relationship. It is a relatable tale about struggling to hold on to something that might not be able to be saved.

Heard this in the store today and I can’t believe I’ve completely forgot about it until now. I remember hearing this quite a bit on the radio years back. Still such a beautiful song. We need more music like this on the charts. :)
